    Re: I HATE SOFT PLASTICS!!!!!!

    Hi Matt,
I would love to catch Squire on plastics but it can be a bit daunting for guys like me and im sure others , I have found it hard enough just to catch these esturary fish on SPs much less throwing the unknowns of fish like squire which to some are a fish that seem un acheivable.

I hope Im wrong & you can give some good advise to myself & others who would love to catch these fish on Sps , bait, anything.
    PLEASE HELP
any advise would be great thanks mate.

    Cheers Pritch.

Shayned get good 1m long Flurocarbon leader (6lb-12lb) & change your line to Braid (4lb-6lb) & it will help your results in no time..

Each to their own mate but there is alot fishermen who enjoy pulling in a good bream hence why the Abt comps are going so well & breamin' is one of Australia's biggest growing sportfish to chase..

Matt - I honestly envy you, I'd like the chance to get bored of catching bream on sp's, if you can pull jewies and snappers on sp's you're to be congratulated on your skill level, although bream on 3kg line when they're over 30cms long and around snags still get my heart pumping.
Pritch - I'm working Saturday thanks for the offer, I've PM'd a flat head spot, hope it helps out on sat.
Saint - Advice is always appreciated, does line colour make any difference?

I'll make the changes suggested and go again. If anyones interested I'll tack up a progress report or a photo of a pile of plastics blazing away merrily, depending on results.

As an aside, while I was tidying the work shop last night I found an old soft plastic from when I was a kid It bought a whole lot of memories back and none of them good. I recall wasting a lot of productive barra fishing time the last time I tried the mongrels.

Hey shayned im not having much luck either with SP's yet but im sure it comes eventually. and for your question nar colour doesnt matter because if you take The Saint's advice and use a flurocarbon leader, that is invisible to fish - they wont see the braid further up. It is also easier to use coloured line as you can see more accurately where your line is with regards to snags etc.

    Cheers Daniel

    shayne

I use 6lb yellow fire line the visability is important for the fisherman not the fish and i use 13 lb fluro carbon leader.

I'm thinking of going to 8lb fire line when i respool as i've been dusted a few times on the 6lb .

It also help to have some 10lb and 20lb leader around as well for those days when the fish are finiky or your near a bit of reef and getting rub off.
Alcohol doesn't agree with me, but i sure do enjoy the argument!!!

    Well Matt,

I for one and thousands of others ( just check all the bream tournies all around Australia) love catching bream. There is nothing boring at all about them, and in fact they can present quite a challenge at times compared to other species. They fight above their weight, look great, and the odd one on the plate tastes great.

And even blind freddie can catch a flathead on SP's.

It doesn't matter what colour braid you get but i use pink or yellow so I can see the line better & hopefully don't miss any 'line bites'.. just make sure your knots are good!

Uni knot is easy to learn and I use it for most applications now.

Ok, I went and bought fireline (braids cheap isn't it) and leader, do I have to use a special knot to join them?

    hello shayned ,
it took me a month to get my first fish on sp's but it is like learning to ride a bike when you get it , it becomes a lot easier. here are some pics of fish i have got on sp's since i started using them 12 months ago, most fish were caught land based. hope this inspires you to keep trying.
