    TOL,

You obviously change hands when pumping yabbies, because its a well known fact that you get right clawed yabbies when you use your right hand on the plunger, and left clawed yabbies when you use your left hand on the plunger.
The other way to catch left clawed yabbies is to put an interior design magazine and a decaf latte in a bucket, leave it on the bank for a half an hour and when you come back, it will be full of left clawed yabbies having an animated discussion on how many throw cushions should be dispalyed on a 3 seat lounge.

    Same goes for other baits.
I usually grab beach worms with my left hand (even though I'm right handed), so I always end up with left handed worms for bait. But you also have to use a left handed pipi for bait, coz the right handed worms don't like left handed pipis.
I find left handed worms are better for bait coz they are more sensitive to the needs of the fish.

    Cheers
    Jeff

Some of you may scoff, some may heap scorn upon me, but it shows that some of us GOM are still observant!! Gorilla, don't think I've ever seen a left handed worm though.

Janine, thanks for your concern, but never having been in a fight with a yabbie that has thrown a claw, I don't know whether the regrowth occurs on the left or right hand side.

Experience has shown us that if we catch our yabbies easily and they're in good condition, then that generally means we're in for a lean time fishing. Once again we were proved correct.

By the way Choppa; you've already put in a post about this. You're not allowed any more posts.

I was discussing your post with my Mum while cooking tea and she commented "That don't yabbies have the ability to regrow claws that are lost/thrown during a fight, etc" and if so - does the new big claw grow back onthe right or left hand side!??????

Choppa! Please be kind! This post was a bit "blonde" of me and the conversation was fueled a couple of southerns and brandys respectively! It sounded funny at the time!

    As tunaman said
    "
They are just bait, and I will bet plenty of people are going to have there heads in the bucket, looking for what side the claw is on.
So if I see anyone with there heads in there bucket looking for a freak yabbie, I will piss my self laughing!
Good thing for me that you weren't at the Caloundra Powerboat Club ramp this morning! You could have had a good laugh!

TOL - did not mean that YOU had a fight with the yabby!

We did pump a few today and, of course I had to check and they were all right-clawed!!

This is so disturbing that I am checking if the yabbies are right or left clawed! TOL you have a lot to answer for!!!!

Sorry about that Janine. More importantly, did you have any success with the yabbies? Think I read a report from Peter earlier in Estuary Reports that didn't sound too flash.

But Janine, the day will come when you will have both left and right handed yabbies in the bait bucket. IT WILL HAPPEN! Then you will have to decide which ones to use first.

    The sharks are swimming again!
And, HEY! Hairblower! I didnt know you supported the gay movement
with yabbies? I guess we all have our hobbies?
And too theoldlegend! Thank you for the interesting post, coz if
people didnt take the time to find out these things, there would
be a lot of vital fishing tips we would miss out on. Sometimes its
the little things, that makes a great result.

Well if this is what i can expect in another few years i better start dividing my bait fridge and freezer into two sections right and left handed bait

    Re: Pumping yabbies.

    The big question is?
Is the yabbie a better bait with the claw on or off. Some say the fish can see it better with the claw on, and some say its better with the claw off
coz the fish doesnt have to disarm the yabbie?

This is better than the joke page...

Do we have left and right handed Octopii...If so, which is best for bait
Or are the Squid that swim forward better than the ones that swim backward
    for bait.

I really am too old for this

    Luv it.
