I am planning on taking the kids (5 and 7) to fish at the mouth of the North Pine or old Redcliffe bridge tomorrow. Can anyone recommend some good spots to try and what to try for? We plan to be there at about lunch time, to fish the turn of the low at about 2. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
gidday sly,
stop off on the way and get some worms and prawn. If it gets bit crowded on the bridge, as it sometimes can- whip over to Dohles Rocks boat ramp and soak a bait there. Whiting are there to be caught, nothing big but the nippers will love it. A few small flatties have been caught too. The snack bar over the road is run with the help of Pat (one of the nicest people on the planet!) she'll tell you what's been biting where and what bait to use. She sells bait there and runs a great boat hire too. I'd suggest heading upriver from the boat ramp about 200m (at low tide) and cast out next to the green marker. There's a little channel that runs behind (and past) the marker passing the little rocky outcrop on your right. A few bream are to be had in there. Fish as light as poss and maybe even take a float as parts are n't that deep. If you can catch a rising tide at sunset half your battle's done.
Enjoy and good luck.

great photo! At low tide you can fish for bream off those rocks into the deep water marked "good area" on the photo. There are no waves there so its safe and ankle deep walking to the rocks you can fish off, although always watch what you are about to stand on when wading near rocks! If you fish between the rocky outcrop and the marker, you should expect to lose a few rigs, there are lots of snags in there.
Heading back the other way from dohles rocks boat ramp (ie down river), there is some nice sand and a creek mouth that often produces flathead and bream. It is no more than about a give minute walk past the houses along the river front.
If you're keen to hit the bridge area- go over the bridge and keep left, dont go into the carpark next to the old bridge- go just past it and turn left after the traffic lights. Go to the end of the street and park. It's a round cul-de-sac, walk out from there to where the marker says "Channel edge". Ask one of your kids (if you have a daughter) if they have any bright coloured beads. Flouro ones are the best. Run your line through the sinker, thread through your coloured bead (optional) and tie on a longshank hook baited with a bloodworm. Bloodworm is best for whiting and can easily be cut. Killer whiting rig and easy as to rig up for the little 'uns.
Just watch the tide as once it starts to come in you gotta move pretty quicksmart!
Enjoy...
Thanks jim-bream and chrisfish for your useful info and google earth images. We will have a go and see what we get. I will file a report later. Cheers.
Slymo, this is an old pic and this area is now a park with barbie points. It's safe and there's room to kick a ball if the kids get bored. Had a few nice lizards and bream from here.
