Thread: Remora  (sucking fish)

  1. #1

    Remora  (sucking fish)

On Sunday I was fishing offshore at the Gold Coast and caught two Remora around 800mm long.
Are these common fish in this region?

    Are they good for anything?

    Cheers

    Brent

    Hi Bonka

Remora are fairly common just about everywhere,
and as far as I know are good for nothing.

    cheers Mick

There was a thread on these suckers not so long ago with a couple of funny stories.

Had up to 10 in our burley trail at times off Bundy, can be a pain in the butt getting a bait past them. Easiest way to unhook them is to turn them upside down stick sucker part to the side coaming , unhook the hook, then slide him off the side. Lots of fun.

Yeah they're a crackup, had one stuck to the deck a few months back
I think they're quite common I was feeding them on Sunday as well.

They love the burley trail and you get all excited for a while thinking you have a Cobia or a small shark in your wake.
I toss mine back but Grants actually say that the skinned fillets are quite good eating so i might give it a try one day.

LOL I remember the thread. I guess Grant never fished off a houseboat

If you read that thread you would never, never NEVER eat a remora...

Reminds me of the old Cheech and Chong thing

    Two german officers walking along

one says "Look" the other says "Hey" "Look" repeats the first..."Look like Dog chit?" "Ya looks like dog chit"

"Smell" "Hey" "Smell" the other bends down "Smell like dog chit" "ya, smell like dog chit"

"Taste" "Hey" "Taste" "Taste like dog chit" "Ya, taste like dog chit"

"Hmmm, goot thing we don't step in it" "Ya, goot thing" "Let's go home to eat!"

Remember you are what you eat!!!!

Makes you wonder if Grant ever actually ate the fish he caught ?

    Recipe for cooking Remora:

    1) put a 12ltr pot on to boil
    2) add 2 garden rocks, one carrot and a turnip when boiling
    3) add grandfathers boots to taste
    4) When all this is cooked, throw away the remora and eat the boots / rock

    ENJOY !!
