    Hayes Inlet

    Hi All

Can anyone help with some info about Hayes Inlet and saltwater creek. I havent fished there for ages. I used to crab up there with my dad for muddies and fish around the water pipes after flatties. Has anyone fished in there lately and have you caught anything. It looks like it could hold some fish but as I said it has been a long time since I have been in there. Thanks for any help.

Never been in there but it is on the 'to do' list as it looks pretty good. Having too much fun in the pine at present.

    Re: Hayes Inlet

We have spent a bit of time up there last year chasing flatties and always managed a few.

Most of the time was spent drifting across the flats or hanging around the deeper channels throwing plastics. It gets very shallow in areas and there were a number of times out pulling the boat, a very nice spot to spend a Sunday afternoon. More time was spent towards the left hand side of the inlet than the right.

    Regards Cameron.

It definitely fishes better on the lower part of the tides so the fish have nowhere to go. Once those big flats are covered the fish spread out making them harder to find. Best off to go in the early part of the flood tide and travel with it. It's a really hard place to navigate on half tides as the water is often discoloured. Be as far up as you can in the early stages and you shouldn't miss out. Flatties are hard to miss on plastics and I'm sure drifted baits would work too if thats your thing. Don't be shy about going right up the creek cause the flatties aren't. There's also plenty of cod around even though it's cold. Hope it helps. Cheers

Thanks for the responses guys. It has been a lot of years since I have been up there. My dad and I used to chase muddies up there. For the time being my wife and I are just going to wander around the flats a couple of hours before low. Im going to be tossing some plastics and my wife will be soaking some bait. I will be teaching her how to use sp's while we are there. She has even watched maddogs dvd. We both think he is a real nut but has some great info

Please post reports on your trips, whether you catch anything or not. I'm curious about getting in there sometime.

    Good luck with it.

No worries Chris. Either myself or my wife (puks) who is a member now, will be posting any reports about our trips up hayes. The first trip will be a wander around the flats, after that we will trying drifting around in the boat and dropping a couple of crab pots for a try with the muddies.

I remember fishing hayes inlet years ago wasnt worth all the mucking around always did better in the pine .
I have heard that there are some big muddies in the creek at the far end of the inlet if your willing to take a chance with all the obstructions in the water .

Bundy my dad and I always crabbed well up the creek but it has been years. Im really still debating wether or not to go up past the pipes. It was always a concern going up there at low tide, but these days I have no idea what is under the water. If i do up there it will be very slowly.
