Hi guys im looking to buy some rope for my softreef anchor on my kayak, ive been told that you need 3 to 5 more rope then the depth your in.
So was wondering if anyone knew what the average depth of maroochy river is?
Thanks Rik

You may have to look on a chart, beacon to beacon doesnt how depths.
Never fished it so can't help you.

Mate go buy yourself 50m of rope that will be enough it is cheap. Make sure you always have much more than required not just 5m more.
It's all part of the fishing experience![]()
thanks tinn
Do i need marine rope or just any poly twist rope will do?
Go buy the rope that comes with a small sand anchor too I think it costs about $18 supercheap auto sell them so do all marine shops

Mate the best rope is silver rope.
It is UV resistant and doesnt absorb water, so makes the best anchor rope.
cheap enough to buy, so getting a 50mt length is going to make sure you have enough. If you're only in a kayak, you should only need a samll diameter, which wont take up much room in your kayak.

There are a few holes that are around the 8-10m mark so 25m on your kayak will be heaps!I realize room is an issue.

Alcohol doesn't agree with me, but i sure do enjoy the argument!!!
Yes thats the main issue, where do i keep all the rope.
Im thinking of using 4mm rope as ive heard that is the go with yaks.
Ive got a softreel anchor i got it cheat from Big W at the weekend bargin $6
Just need the rope now.
On average I would say the Maroochy River is about 10 - 12 feet deep with some spots notably the cod hole and a stretch upstream of the bli bli bridge being over 20 feet deep, on the other side of the coin there are some spots only a few feet deep. if you get enough rope to handle the cod hole then you will definitely have enough to handle any other spots you can get to.
Cheers
Mike
PS If you can make a midweek fish let me know as I am planning a trip on the maroochy soon.
