    Targeting squid

    G'day
Just wanting to target some squid as some calimari is on the cards. I know a little about fishing for these but not alot of experiance to back up the theory. I'm thinking of trying the reef on the eastern side of green island whilst I target snapper and tailor, and if that fails... probably along wello point on the reef and then to the weed beds there. What tides should I be looking for, best gear and colour and is the need for a light from a cyalume stick that nessecary?.

as good as anything is to go to a jetty (best if it has lights) and get there just before dark with a couple of Yo-Zuri Squid jigs and a spin outfit (a landing net can be handy) and just cast out and retreive with a stop start type slow wind and hey presto you should be able to get a few each night, maybe try a few different locations to find the best, but Squidding is by no means "rocket science" (at least on the South Coast of NSW) and indeed can be sort of "therapy fishing" as there is no real dramas with boats, bait, drift, anchors etc, and good for the whole family, especially kids, they love Squidding.

    G'day
Thanks for the tips noel and tinn alike. Picked up a couple of yo zuri jigs today, one of which is the pheromone style... they look hot. Also picked up a small LED blinking light designed to go wherever you like on your rig and is activated by water. Looks absolutly brilliant and would be a huge advantage outside. I'll be out in the morning and let you know how I go.
