    Jumpinpin Bream

Hello fello fishers. As a newby at the sp/lure game i was thinking of trying the Pin for bream. Any suggestions re locations and tactics would be appreciated. Haven't noticed any posts in this regard of late so if anyone has had success in the Pin area of late (other than with bait) it would be good to hear.

Last time I was there I got some good bream anchoring outside Swan Bay and drifting baits towards the pin bar. Small bait fish on nylon trace worked very well. You need to be away from the shore as there are some big vines growing around the pin side of Swan Bay and you'll lose your rig if you hook them. If you can get to it, try fishing the surf beach just outside the pin bar. Heading back from the Pin there are a slew of good spots - the pig stiles, Crusoe Island, Kalinga Bank, Short Island - just check out a map of the area and you'll see. A drift across Kalinga often yields flathead and tailort as well.

I usually use lures for flathead down there. There are so many gutters, sand bars and channels to check out and flattie love lures.

on the incoming tide clear water you get pest in plague proportions on the northen beach of crusoe island, in about 3-5ft of water over the patches of weed 40m off the beach,

    Hi Mad Max,

Thanks for that, I know where you are referring to. Have you done ok down there on the sp's or lures recently or around this time in other years?

What would you advise re sp's i.e jigs etc. I have bought some berkley gulp 3" pumpkinseed minnows and gulp sandworms plus some sliders and squidgies and a range of jigheads from TT lures 1/6 to 1/20 in no. 1 hooks. have a diawa IM6 Firewolf rod and 2000 reel loaded with 6lb berkley fireline in smoke colour and some clear leader. Also have some ecogear SX40F 4cm 2.5g lures. From everything i have read this should enable me to catch something!!
I will be fishing from a 13ft open tinny with 25hp tiller steer - don't have an electric motor so will only be able to anchor or drift. Used to catching bream on baits but havn't given the plastics a go yet. Have caught some flathead on manns stretch 5's and rebel crawdads in the past mainly trolling them - also caught a few nice bream several years ago now on the stretch 5's casting off the point of Squire Is which is now just a sliver of mud. i guess my main question is how to present the plastic for best effect and what to expect in terms of responding to a bream attacking the plastic. Thanks again for the reply.

it sounds as if your ready to rock and roll and get some of these bream. all the gear you are using is fine. just cast around and mix up your retrieve, some steady constant retrieves and then some bumping up and down etc over the weed.

i got about 8 bream all over 27cm in 15mins of casting, literally every second cast we were on. however iv been back there a couple of times recently and havent gone any good on the bream, only flatties.

even if you dont pic up any bream youll pic up some lizards.

try fishing the drop off there aswell, its like a big ledge, got a couple of good hits there last week in the shitty conditions

    Mad max,

Thanks a lot for that info - i think i'm starting to get a better picture of how to go about it from what you've said. Just one question, are you anchoring or drifting or do you have an electric to hold you in the spot? Sounds like a good session you had there recently - that would have been good going even on bait. When I do get out there I'll let you know how it goes.
