Fishing at Tin Can Inlet - Inskip Point

Gidday all,

I am thinking of towing my 12 ft tinny up to Inskip Point or somewhere near there and camping/fishing for a few days. I was wondering if anyone has any recent reports on fishing and crabbing in the area. I would also appreciate any suggestions on camping - is the caravan park out towards Carlo Point camper-friendly?

Yep camped at carlo a few years ago and it was great, got a site right near the water and left the tinny in, boat ramp not that far away though. As for the fishing Jeeees, be prepared for just about anything.

Get yourself up there! I camped at Carlo point last weekend and it is a great little spot. We unfortunately copped a blast of unseasonal southerlies and were also landbased so we had limited options but still managed to pull a feed in between the gusts. I just thought that 20 bucks per night for an unpowered tent site was a bit steep but the park is in a prime position.

G'day Mike,
I spent a week up there a couple of weeks ago. Top little spot, not to many sandflies this time of year. The caravan park is spread out over 20 odd acres so there is plenty of room, and like elprez said the boat ramps nice and close.

I'll be just a little further north next weekend. July last year you could turna small pack of pillies into 6 school macks pretty quick and some decent squire were hanging around rock bottoms.

Top spot mate. Spend a lot of time up there but always stay at tin can bay. The fishing can be red hot for flatties at this time of year. Hit the weed beds on an early run out tide and you shouldn't miss out. Keep an eye out for squid as well. If the weathers good hit inskip for tuna and macks. Last time I was up there the schools of mac tuna and longtails were thick. I know a couple of locals at tin can who have all but given up on crabbing the area. There is no less than four pros working the inlet at one time with plenty of ring ins from maryborough and the sunny coast. Double that figure and you're close to the amount of netters hitting the same area. Apart from that there are some awesome fish to be caught and it's just a top spot to be. Enjoy. Cheers
