    More questions on braid

    Well now, since you're here....

I have finally decided to bite the bullet and buy some braid/superline.

In searching the forums, the consesus seems to be with a low-profile baitcasters - stick with a softer true braid, and for spinning reels - to use fused line such as Spiderwire stealth.

    My questions are:

Should I use a brightly coloured - or dull green fused line on my TSS4/2.4M, 8Kg Ugly stik combo that I intend mostly for casting slugs for pelagics?

(I may also use the same combo for drowning baits when no surface action is happening.)

I have also just bought a new Diawa Sealine 50 SHV overhead (6.1:1 ratio) mated with an old 10Kg Jarvis Walker roller tip 6'6 rod, for a bit of light trolling/heavy casting. Could also use this as a sitter out the back with a livie under a balloon.

This is currently spooled with 500M of 20Lb Red Shogun mono - with still a bit of room for a topshot of braid if necessary.

Would a braid topshot on the overhead trolling reel be any advantage considering my intended uses?

Would fish be put off by the bright coloured braid if used in a static method of fishing? (I would likely use a couple of metres of mono for a trace/leader)

Any disagreement with using brightly coloured true braid on baitcasters to be used for SPs or small hardbodied lures?

Yeah, I know too may questions, but hey I don't know. So why not ask someone in the know?

    I'll shutup now. #

    Sea-dog

I'm not going to tell you what is right as there is no right just differing views here's what i use!!
Jigging Braid 80lb pe colour coded yamtoyo
    Plastics- braid fireline yellow
    Baitcasters braid 50lb fins green ( barra,jacks)
Bottom basher 80m plus - braid super braid 50lb green
Bottom basher less than 80 m mono 24kg
Trolling Mono 8 -24 kg depends whats the target
    Slug chucking Mono 6 kg
    Float Baiting Mono 10 kg
Bream and whiting 2-4 kg mono
    Surf fishing mono 6-10 kg

Braid is great but it's not for every form of fishing and can actually cost you fish because of it harshness.

    Re: More questions on braid

Not an expert - but generally agree with Ian - (Finding time)... re his advice above.

I probably wouldnt put a top shot of braid on that sealine given the application - for trolling - you want a bit of give in the line to absorb the strike - braid has very little give (stretch)... so may defeat that purpose. However I dont do a lot of trolling so I will stand corrected. I dont do much deep water fishing (over 80m) either, but if I did I would use braid to help transmit bites... but other than that I dont use braid for soaking baits at all....... but I do use it when chucking slugs etc at pelagics. General rule (for me) is braid for artificials and mono for real (bait).

The main thing you will notice when you go to braid is you will have to be extra good with your knot tying... I usually use twice as many wrapps with the braid as it can tend to cut through the mono leader. Both Mono and braid definately have their applications... but given the right application braid can really make a lot of difference.

Hope that helps a bit - to each their own tho - so experiment and see what works for you.

    Adam
