    what rod/Russell Island knowledge

Just wanted some advice on a rod for my 6yr old son.
We just ussually go off the beach or jetties and catch
bream/taylor. But his rod is a bit old and I would like
to replace it and I need some advice on length and strength
of rod. Preferably some kind of combo kit from K-Mart or Big W.
Hoping to get one by this weekend as we are taking the boat out
    near Russel Island.

Wich brings me to my next question. Just wanting to know if someone
can give me a little guide on a nice spot so my young fella can catch
some nice fish to break in his new rod/reel combo.

I reckon you'd be looking at a pretty light outfit for a 6 yo. That is all you need to target bream, whiting and flathead anyway. I would suggest something around 6' in length with a spinning reel or maybe an alvey 500B. 8-12 lb line would suit. I am sure there would be dozens of combos like this in the large chain stores pretty cheap.

Can't help you with any specific spots, but there are a few flathead moving around. The mouth of a drain off the flats at the start of the run out would be a good choice.
