    Fishing off Inskip Point

    Hey guys,

Heading up to Inskip Point on Monday and staying until Thursday with my son from Melbourne. We will be camping but hope to get him out and show him a decent catch of fish. Have a 5.3m boat that can go outside (if the weather drops of a bit) or may be forced to fish inside Fraser Island. Can anyone help me out with some general marks for outside (would love to chase Snapper, Emperor and Pearlies) or spots on the inside of Fraser Island (and hope for some decent Tailor). I can sound around and find the ground as long as I have an idea of how far out and in which direction. Some general GPS marks would also work.

    Would appreciate any local advice.

With the way the weather looks you will probably just be camping and beach fishing.
Up along the inside of fraser you can sound around for some reef and catch some goood fish but be careful as this can get ugly with the bad weather coming.
A brownies beacon to beacon or hooked in paradise will show the areas around the bottom of fraser.

    g'day TUNZAFUN
went fishing on friday on the bottom half of fraser in 15 to 20knt winds in my 4.8m stacer. the weater was fine wasn't choppy at all their was plenty of boats going across the bar big and small. did not have as much success as most times as i was limeted to 4hours on the water as for gps marks you are a better man then me if you get any i tryed but know one knows or they want to kept them to them selves BUT if you go from carlo point and go out throught the beaconds then turn right there is a drop off about 1 to 2k's or more up follow that up till you see a small island about a k or two away. I get at less one or two sharks just about every time and or a mixed bag of sweetlip and squire then if you have pillies, mullet or metal slugs and the swell is not to bad keep going up till you pass inskip point over to fraser and up alittle bit you will come to a green beacon that is called BIG MICK some where between faser and inskip their you will find slimies mackeral tuna and many more then if the weather permits you could go between inskip and the bar trolling lures for tuna if bottom bashing follow fraser up till you see a sand bluff on fraser and useing the sounder about 1to2 hundered meters out you will find a reef called the bluff reef thats all i know not counting tin can which has a few ledges and sand flats that work well at times and is not as affected by the wind as much as inskip or if the weather is fine to go off shore you can get a gps booklet for most ar all tackle shops Fishermans warehouse in gympie has the and the marks go from 5ks to the continental shelf anyway best of luck and top fishing

The rainbow fishing comp has just been on up there and a friend of mine has a 7mt kev cat and he only went out on day in the week he was there. He told me a 6mt boat went over in fishermans gutter.
Look at seabreeze and decide for yourself about the bad weather you are going to encounter. For one i would not attempt that bar with the forcast the way it is.

Wide Bay Bar isnt for the inexperienced thats for sure. Even professional fisherman and crabbers get killed on it every year. There have been some threads made here that explain some very wild encounters just when things are supposed to be fine. I recommend crossing it with an experienced hand first, its an unusual set up.

    Cheers

Surf Sniper the main thing is that your mates are alright. Bugger the boat.
I hope tunafun has got the message about how dangerous that area can be.
On a good day you could take a tinnie through fishermans gutter and on a bad day you wont even get over to the bottom of fraser.

    Hi Guys,

Got the message loud and clear. I would never try anything I don't think I have the experience for and always side on the err of caution. That is why this is such a great site because you can call on the experience of so many and avoid the catastrophes . Guess we we will be fishing inside but can always be hopefull that Wedesday is the go.

Gawby your suggestiona are appreciated for fishing spots as with all the other advice. Guys we will stay safe as the last thing I want is to lose my only son on a dangerous bar in the sake of a piscatorial exploit.

Cod, your info is invaluable and exactly what I needed to give me a heads up (weather permitting). I can only hope that I can show a southerner what he is missing out on not living in God's country .

Thanks for all the replys guys. Post on the results next week .
