its a long way home if it blows up even in a big boat
mate... safer bet..... fish from the Moooooloooo ramp!
Bloody far in a tinnie!
Dont Blame me....... I voted for Johnny!GO THE BORG!
don't even think about it, you are likely to be on the 6pm news
Hmmmm so may I ask what is the determination of what is a small tinny?
I know Madman has a 525 Stacer and he hits the hard a fair bit.
I have a 5.3 Polycraft CC and I am a Banks virgin though contemplating te idea. ( I have been out at Caloundra Wide - departed from Scarbourough and allways felt safe)
So what is small ???
Am I big enough with 5.3 of Plastic!

Before i'll make any comments.
How big is your tinnie mate?
Ian
Alcohol doesn't agree with me, but i sure do enjoy the argument!!!
Went on a trip in southern tassie once and on the way to the wharf where the boat was my mate said he didnt know if his mate was takin the small tinnie out or the big girl as he called it.
So off we went motored away in a 6m open dingy with a couple of tiller steer 90's on the back. On the way out I said to the skipper "what size is ya small boat", his reply was you are in it. The big girl was a 10m cat.
cheers

mate i've got a 16ft clark abalone i go as far as i like when i can cover the petrol normal is 18nms wide there are many people who get upset because they have spent $100,000 to go reef fishing then someone turns up in a $3000 tinnie you are far more likey to come to grief walking on the footpath then 100miles offshore in a dingy common sense wait for the good weather there are a lot of people who are set up for the big storm but will only venture out when its pancake flat you hear
them clocking in with vmr going from one canal to another [with knees knocking i suspect] timddo good on you but realize shit can happen and be prepared cheers
Having been to the Banks all of 4 times now, I wouldn't be surprised at what turned up out there.
Just be safe in what you do and maybe pair up with another boat if you decide to go.

i'm got a 4.85 freestyle trailcraft, so its self draining decks, Been out to 36fathom on sunday off the goldcoast. Actually went out at 2am to 24fathom then went back coz the deckie made a berly trail. Then headed back to 36th for a while ( whale watching.)Will only go if it's dead flat say .8 meter waves or so and 5-10 knots. I read in a post not long ago that there was a 4.5 meter tinnie fishing their, Safety gear, i got epird, offshore flares, radio. I have always felt safe in my boat, But as your guys have said, going as a fleet of small boats are safer for everyone. We all look after each other on the way out an in. Will wait for good weather and tag along with someone, Just want the experience.
i knwo the mooloolabah bar is pretty safe. i got 120 litre tank of fuel. so hopfully it should be enough .
cheers
timddo
oh forgot, donk is 60 cruises top speed is 28knots with 3 people on board + 120 fuel and gear. also got a gps chartplotter.
I dont know why you would want to fish the banks ?
You only need to venture out about 8km East (murphies) or if you are game up to 15km NE (coolum wide) If you look back on the reports from murphies there have been some top fish caught recently.
