    Spoil grounds in moreton bay

I've read some articles which mention the spoil grounds as a place to target squire in the bay. Last night I hooked up my gps to put in a mark for the Harry Atkinson reef and noticed the chart showing some general areas as "spoil grounds". Is this a name for rubble or broken reef bottom?

I'm meeting up with some mates on Sunday (3rd)to fish the bay and was going to try out the artificial reef. I'm wondering if the spoil grounds are worth a try or should I stick to plan A?

Of course Plan C is ..........Wherever you think is a good idea . I've only fished the bay twice and had poor results so far around peel, but I know with a bit more perserverence and a little local knowlegde I may just crack a good day.

    Cheers roo.

Ps. I just checked nuggets predictions.......following sunday (9th) is 100% better but this sunday is the last chance to hook up with mates for a few months.

Spoil grounds usually means areas they used to dump stuff in the past , its on the charts to warn trawler operaters so they wont rip the crap out of their nets (or worse).

harry atkinsons reef is really a hit and a miss sort of a place, and on the weekends, it is very similar to the supermarket car park. all the noise that is generated from the boats spooks the bigger fish.

My recommendation is to either sound around to the south or north of boats and find a bit of broken ground that doesn't have as as many boats around, or, go and have a go at some of these spoil grounds that you have on your map.

Remember, for best results, be very quiet, use fresh baits, and use very very little to no weight at all on your lines, to make the baits look as natural as possible. the snapper/squire move up and down the water column looking for food.

Good luck, and don't forget to post your results

thanks Seahunt, I hope its nothing nasty My chart noted an area in the northern bay warning of unexploded ordinance I'll stay way from there

Thanks fisher4life, i'll give that a go. I'd heard it could get busy out there. The charts show 15-20 metres over the spoil grounds just nth of H.atkinson so i'll jig up some liveys (hope i'll find them around some of the beacons)before i get there and float them out. Might give the placcies a go there too. Ive got a 4stroke to get there and a bow mount riptide to search around with.

    Cheers for the tips. Roo
