Hi all , first fishing report for a very long time so go easy .
Just spent the last 2 weeks up at Burrum Heads . Stayed in a friends holiday house so we had all the comforts of home only 1 street from the boat ramp . Towed my 4.9 sunchaser 1/2 cab which is just right to get out to 8 mile if conditions are right but still not to big to fish the river which can be very shallow in areas that you would not expect . 1st day headed out early to chase some mackerel that had been schooling north towards woodgate .Only 3 boated and a couple of flat fish (soul) Next couple of days spent exploring the river with a few fish but lots of relaxing.
Strong wind warning predicted so off to Fraser for what turned out to be some of the best fishing ive ever done . Left the boat and all the comforts behind , just the troopy, myself and girlfreind, basic camping gear and some fishing gear. Did the usuall sight seeing stuff for most of the day , found a guttar just south of Indian Head closed zone , dug some pipies and off for a fish, wind was from the northwest so surf was flat & fishing was easy . First cast very nice Tarwine second same third huge dart and so it went for about an hour . This is where the fun started , saw a school of large sea mullet close in so grabed the cast net (never leave home without it ) 1 throw , net explodes , drag it in , 3 big mullet and Queenfish . Get over the shock of cast netting mullet off the beach but to come up with a Queenfish. Fillet a mullet to try for bigger bream etc and just get blown away on 20lb line . Next morning try again but this time bring out the bigger gear. Large slab of mullet on a gang and slam 15 min fight and up the beach comes the biggest green back ive ever seen . Some photos and then we released the big fella to give someone else a thrill . cast again and same thing but his slightly smaller brother . Photo , release & out again but this time a nice golden travally. Pull the pin on fishing while on a high and more sightseeing . Lunch at Wathumba creek . Throw the net , get some poddy mullet , pull in a huge Sand Flathead . Get dusted by a few more and back to sight seeing . Spend the night down the beach near the Mahino . Up whith the sun to catch a dozen or so nice Taylor, not huge but theres something about standing shoulder to shoulder pulling Taylor of the beach i can,t explain . Realeased all but 1 fish which we had for tea 1 night (not a taylor) . Back to Burrum next day and back to river fishing . Had 1 real good afternoon with 10 very healthy bream (very black in colour) bigger ones up around the kilo. Also boated a nice Queenfish in the river, large longtom more soul and the ever present happy moments (great fighting fish ) The last day the hook stealers turned up , we lost about 30 hooks without feeling a bite .Anybody got any ideas ?All in all a very interesting holliday .
Got the fishing bug again so hope it wont be to long before i can do another trip .
Hope report was not to long with to many mistakes
