    Jerusalem Creek

    G'day
Does anybody have ANY information on this place? It's up the beach on the northern NSW coast and is supposed to be a great little spot. Later in september looks like I will be going down with a friend and his kids for an over night camp and a fish. Is it safe to camp there, and are there facilities? Is there access to the creek to launch a 12' tinny off of a trailer and are you allowed to fish the creek, or is it even worthwhile? Whats the beach like down there, and comparison to out beaches up here like noosa north shore and stradbroke / moreton?

    Bundjalung NP.

You can drive on the beach between J creek and south to Woody head, but not north onto airforce beach. The beach access at J creek gets washed out pretty regularly.

Heres a link to the park page:

hi blackened, the creek itself is a tannin stained affair with deeper skinnier water near the campsites that gets wider and shallower as it goes down to the beach. it is not open to the ocean often.last time i went there i flogged it for hours from the shore for no reward. it is a very pretty place with great walks and a good camping area. the beach is very close and does fish very well at times (jew bream whiting tailor etc). we had a lot of rain down this way last week (10 in some places) so i can imagine it would be very stained up.if you were to go an hour or so further south to wooli the river there has many more options available for the tinny. it is a great place but can get busy at holiday times. minnie waters (north of wooli) is another fantastic spot but has no estuary, iluka could be a good option for you also, its on the clarence which fishes well most of the time..heres a couple of pics of minnie beach

my old man used to camp down at J creek years ago. he loved it, I fished it a bit, can be good whiting/ flathead up the mouth end, but it's been years since I've been there. the camping grounds used to be pretty good. not much in the way of facilities, but that may have changed by now. the beach fishing should be good though. used to get plenty of pippies

Minnie Water and Woolli have got to be two of the best spots on the FNC.

It's been a few years, but this is what I remember. As maxwellson said, the creek itself is very tannin stained. Deep and narrow where you can get boat access and shallowing/widening out towards the mouth.
You can get a small tinny in here but you have to drag it off the trailer to the water about 20-30m as I believe the track is boarded off.

My opinion is that the best camp site in the area is up the creek and only accessible by tinny or unless you are happy to carry all your gear and supplies a few kms to get there. A beautiful grassy spot with a BBQ and wooden table. Easy access to the mouth and surf beach and being a few kms walk from the main camping area......you don't tend to get too many tourists. But there was no amenities there, if you need them.

I have caught quite a few flathead in here and seen alot more evidence of bigger fish by their lay marks.

The rest of the camp areas are quite nice and accessible by 2WD. There are a few toilets at the communal day areas as well. Beach access is down to Shark Bay just north of Woody Head and a few kms out of Iluka.

As far as the surf beach goes, they catch alot of Jew off the black ilmenite rocks that line the beach from the 4WD access north to the mouth of the creek. (Access north of the creek mouth is prohibited as it is an Airforce Bombing range) Tailor are found south down the beach as well. Similar conditions as to what you get in SE Qld.

Overall, very nice spot and well worth the visit.

    Cheers, rhet

    Re: Jerusalem Creek

Great spot for fishing the beach
Jump in the creek to cool off
    no fresh water
    Shitloads of snakes
Wouldn't take the youngun unless he is dedicated fisho

If you have 4x4 try South Ballina Beach caravan park, direct beach access by foot and 4x4, plenty of pool/games stuff for kids, close to the river if it blows up

    G'day
thanks very much for the replies It is much appreciated. I was considering ammenities as there may be pete's 2 girls coming (6 and 8) but they're both little troopers. Wooli looks the goods, great shots there. Pete was set opn taking the 4x4 for a run up the beach and having a look at jerusalem and camping there. By the sounds of it, It sounds similar to what currimundi lake is up the sunshine coast. Will be doing more research and take it from there. Any more info on wooli?

    Re: Jerusalem Creek

There are two caravan parks there Dave,

The Solitary Islands Resort Park on the way into Wooli and a council park in the middle of the Wooli village. #The resort caravan park is well appointed with mini golf and good play areas for the kids and a pool and there are some very nice sites that back up to the river.

The pub is next to the Resort caravan park so its not far to stagger home if need be and they have recently upgraded the restaraunt/bistro...not a bad feed to be had there.

The bowls club has quite a good chinese restaraunt and the Friday night meat raffles are always worth being there for.

The Wooli Wooli river is one of Jackies (my wife) all time favorite spots..anchoring up near the wall to bar entrance at the base of the coloured sands and casting #SP's up onto the sand flats for flatties or fishing the deeper water around the rock and coffee rock structure will see good bream and perhaps the odd Jack.

I have trolled SP's up and down the sand ridge #between the oyster lease on the Western side of the river and the coloured sands on both the falling asnd rising tides and caught some very nice lizards.

a lot of blokes crab in the upper reaches of the river...there are regs and restricted areas but local fishing maps will tell you where that begins and ends. #You also need a NSW fishing liscence.

The boat ramp is a good one but can be tricky retrieivng a larger boat when the tide is running as it really rips through a deep water channel near the ramp, but it is do-able.

The estuary is a great place for young families, very safe and lovely sandy beach. #The surf beach is usually patrolled during school hols, not sure about weekends off peak.

There are some great Jew holes on the beach side at Wooli with good jew regularly taken

The Wooli Bar is negotiable but getting some local knowledge on it is advisable...it can be a real cow on a South Easter and a run out tide but if conditions are suitable there are some very fishy areas not far from the entrance.

You wont be disappointed...I'm jealous already...roll on christmas

hope you have a great time

    Cheers
