Yep, baby threadfin.
Actually never seen or caught one that small and didn't think they were so far south.

yep, it is a baby threadfin i think
There's a picture of one in Nugget's column of the local rag this week caught in the Logan. Next we'll be getting Barra down here!Originally Posted by seajay1
I have a feeling that they come down here to breed and bugger off as they get bigger. Catch 'em regularly in the cast net both in the Pine and on shorncliffe pier.

Yep,
Baby threadfin is the consensus, and I have caught a few in the cast net around the Logan River too. They are all through the Pin area, but not too common a catch on line, only every so often.

I used to get a few of them at the "Wells" ( Clontarf) a bloke that I fished with called them a "Putty nosed perch" Now that some are saying small Threadfin it has me wondering are they one and the same.
Cheers

Take photos and memories leave only footprints, respect the enviroment when 4 wheel driving , never be too busy to help out someone in need.
We used to catch heaps of them as kids fishing Shorncliffe Pier, Cabbage Tree Ck and on the flats off the old bridge.
We called them putty nosed perch.
Could be a rel menance when whiting fishing.

Brian
Yeah! It's a putty nose perch. They are a common catch in the Pine during summer, especially when using prawn baits. They are a small species of threadfin growing to 19 inches (47cm) according to Grant, but 30cm fish would be considered large today. They are quite good eating.

Thanks for the report, I've heard of them just never seen one before.
I've always known them as a putty nosed perch as well, you can catch them in some of the muddier areas of Moreton Bay as well.
i have seen them caught in the seaway only a couple months ago
