Beach Worms...Places to Get Them?
G'day
I am keen to have a crack at catching Beach Worms...but I am not sure of any places on the sunshine coast/bribie where they reside...can anyone give me some locations?
I know they are a killer bait and I want to use them when I go over Straddie next time, I know they are on the main beach there...just need some practice at catching them before I head over there.
Also, Pipi's...same thing, where to get them.
Cheers

I know that you can get both beach worms and pipis at Sunshine Beach. Not as prolific as places like Fraser Island however you still can get enough for bait.

Try areas of beach that are not coarse and gravelly or with bits of broken shell, worms avoid those places. Last half of the runout, wash a stinky fish frame around in the receeding water, if you see the heads pop up, you have found a spot, if not keep walking....

you can catch them on any surf facing beach. I have caught them at the top end of bribie, kawana and mooloolaba. The long open beaches seem to be the best (kawana), probably because of less human traffic. What you want is a section of beach where there is a decent wash ie. not where there is a gutter in close causing a shore dump.

mate just look for a nice sand bank or a nice flat erea see pic this is main beach straddie i like two two hours before low tide also pippies drive down at low tide look for lumps in tyre tracks you will see hundreds of these past the causeway grab a rod holder 50mm pvc push into lump you,ll find sometimes two under the lump.
There will be days when the fishing is better than one's most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.

There is an art...that's for sure. Here is how i was shown:
when you see one...tease it with the dead fish and SLOWLY move your thumb and forefinger into the sand around it (as if you were about to pinch it just below the sand line). Then within a millisecond of each other pinch fingers together and pull worm striaght up...and I mean striaght up. They often get quite long and you will find your arm will often go well above your head. you need to pull up at a reasonable pass (not crazy fast) as they can grab on if you go to slow....then you end up with half a worm.
TIP: If you see them start to arch their back.....pinch fast! As soon as that back is arched they can disappear in a blink.
aaarrgghhh the joys of the great outdoors. Don't worry...after a while you will be a pro!!
Enjoy!!

Re: Beach Worms...Places to Get Them?
voodo, most beaches along the sunny coast are suitable for worming, bribie however isnt any good due to the beach being short and steep, the nill formation of banks and the softness of sand.
double island/ teewah is a great area of beach for bait gathering., eugari and worms are plentyfull.
best areas for beach worming are the top end of the beach near the cherry venture but worms can be found allong the entire beach including up along rainbow beaches to the bar at inskip.
eugari can be found in huge numbers along DI/ teewah beaches but are very scarce along rainbow beach. the bubiling springs area in the camping ground area alond DI is probly the best place to find them but like the worms you will find them along the entire beach. If the beach is narrow and steep with plenty of gutters you will most likely have to dig around the waters edge for them , but if the beach is wide and flat with plenty of sand they will be easy to spot as lumps on the beach in the vechicle tracks.
you dont have to pinch fast or be quick as lightning to catch worms, yes they are quick but only if you spook them or handle them wrongly. try and use thumb and fore finger on the worm about an inch down from the head of the worm. a gentle slow constant pressure when the worm relaxes is all that is needed to grasp them then a fluent gentle pull out. I like to pull them to the side slightly when worming however this is just what im use to.
if your heading to straddie, why not head down the bottom end and catch some fresh worms there. there are plenty of big stumpy's to test your strength out on
good luck

Mate, i dont want to throw water on your fire but it took me a 12 months to get say 1 out of every 3 worms, and i am not a complete noodle. It is definately an art and very hard to master, but geez the jewies love a live beach worm.
