Thinking of putting the boat in on thursday night for a bit of a session under the bribie bridge. Try the incoming tide for any success. Tried there once before in the daylight with little success so any tips bait, lures even positions (mainland side or island side) would be greatly appreciated.
I've never had success on a rising tide. Don't know why. But I'd say around a bridge at night is a good option as fish are supposed to be attracted to the lights. I think the channel runs along the Bribie side rather than the mainland.
G'day gus. The bribie bridge holds just about anything at this time of year especially at night. A good way to stir the local population of estuary cod up is to get some live pike and drift them into the pylons. Use two hooks on a snelled rig with plenty of lead to keep the bait around the base of the pylons. Don't use anything below a 50lb leader. Cod don't need to be fed any line to secure a good hook up so give them a drop of the rod and once the weight is felt go hard. Live pike will also attract plenty of other species like jew, sharks, jacks, and any other good sized fish in the area. It's a top place to fish big live baits at any time, just pick the smaller tides or fish the top or bottom end of the bigger tides around the moon. Good luck
soon be time for jewies , you can get squire, cod, parrot ,sweetlip, tailor, mowong, there are all sorts of fish there, best to fish about 1/4 of the distance from mainland side of bridge on incoming tide, no flood tides though, or you will need a besser block for a sinker, great place to fish with a downrigger. with whole squid.
Used to fish the spot hubby refers to 15 odd years ago every now and again, some nice fish were caught and sometimes nothing, One night I fell asleep awoke with the boat swung a bit on anchor with wind, the anchor light illuminating a pylon right next to the boat, near shit myself, decided not having fun anymore and headed home
another spot: anchor the boat a full width or two channel-ward of the passage dropoff and run unweighted baits (like whole squid) with the tide down along it for 70m or so. Used to work well to the bayside of the jetty.
hay guys. im also looking at doing the same sort of thing...
what sort of gear would those that have fished it suggest? with talk of dewies a reasonable size setup would be wanted, am i not right?
cheers
