Hey guys will be heading up crystal creeks way come november, Just curious if any one has fished the system lately? I have fished the system once before with big barra lures but only come out with a few little jacks, Whats the best gear for the creek, and what species does it hold? Thanks
Oh and are there any other little creeks like crystal more towards Lucinda that would be worth a flick?
The fishing at Crystal Ck is generally regarded as crap as far as I've heard. I have walked the banks a couple of times for about the same results as yourself. I'm presuming you don't have a boat so the options between Crystal and Lucinda are fairly limited. However, Cattle Ck at the highway bridge is chockers with barra and tarpon but, the area is reputedly a croc breeding area so it's a risk if this is true. I've fished the area on the right of the bridge heading north ( mainly with maribou jigs ) and never seen a croc but I always stand about 5 mtrs back from the water. You only live once, right.
OK,
Cattle Creek is a top spot for barra and is easily accessible from Crystal . You can launch in Crystal and motor up the coast OR 4wd it up the beach northwards from Crystal and launch at Insulator and it's a much shorter boat trip up to Cattle. Fish the obvious spots and you should score, as theres miles of creek to explore. There ARE plenty of crocs in Cattle so be aware when catching bait etc. If the ocean is too rough and you do have a 4wd then Insulator is not a bad 2nd option if you get right up the creek.
Cheers.
