plastics at the pin?????

i am having trouble with the fast tides at the pin using plastics, i have heard so many stories about people catching monster lizards at the pin on plastics,last time i was there i used a squidgy fish,i think 120mm long with a good size jh,not sure of what weight. what is a good size jig head,how do you cast and where do you cast when the tide is flowing so quick, im stunped.????

Do you drift of anchor? If the tide isn't flowing hard just cast upstream against the direction of the tide and let it sink to the bottom and drift past you. Then retrieve and repeat. You can get away with using even a 1/8 jighead using this method. If you are drifting and trolling then you can increase the weight and go to a heavier jighead like a 3/8 ounce and let it drag along behind you. You can also cast ahead of the boat and let it sink and drop to the bottom. For flathead they seem to like the bright pink colours so perhaps experiment with your placcie colours and see what results you get. There is a lot to learn and a lot of it is trial and error because you need to take into consideration how clear the water is as well. If the water is really clear and clean then the watermelon colours work well too. Good luck with it and happy fishing.

geoff, get up on the flats to rather than the channels to flick and wind. Next time you head down fish the flats between the point of Kalinga Bank and the new mouth of swan bay in water no deeper than 2.5m - you'll get a nice lizard.

If you fish the channels drift the edge of those flats - use a jig head heavy enough to hit bottom but light enough to follow you as you flick up and drift away (this method works well on neap tides with less flow).
