Boorooloola (King ash bay)
Gidday, a mate and I are looking to head north this November (I know it's not the best time but that's when my mate's annual leave is).
Can anyone give me any advice on this location?
Can we get to it (in a 4WD) at this time?
Cheers

Mate,
There is no probs getting there at that time of year. Nov is the best time to visit as the buildup is in full swing which sparks up the fishing action. The SE turn off which makes travel out to the islands a breeze. It can get a bit uncomfortable with the humidity but a few beers and a good fan will ease the pain.
The wet season rains do not really kick off until Dec - Jan in earnest. You may get a few downpours but not the real heavy duty stuff.
As I said the fishing is almost at its best at this time with the Barra absolute suckers for live baits, especially down near the mouth. Mud crabs are also around although a bit skitty.
If you have the dosh you might want to look at hiring a house boat and basing yourself down near the mouth. The houseboats are airconed and some of the new ones have a spa up front.
Hope this helps

Gidday, what kind of lures should I take? I've got a few flatz ratz and stuff like that, anything else you'd recommend?
What's the best rig for livies? Just a 5/0 or 6/0 on 40-50Lb leader under a float or on the bottom?

Gdday GAFYM, cheers for the advice.
What kinda gear will put me in with a chance? I was going to use an abu 6500 with 20Lb as my main outfit with an abu 5500 with 12Lb for some lighter fun.
Should I chuck in a spool of 30Lb or something aswell?
Thanks for the tip on the pigs, we're very keen for a shoot so we'll have a look into that!
Any other info you've got on the area would be much appreciated!
Cheers
Mick
