TBM Syndrome (Teewah Beach Madness) : a psychotic disorder usually characterized by withdrawal from reality, illogical patterns of thinking, delusion, and hallucinations regarding body core temperature, and accompanied in varying degrees by other emotional, behavioral, or intellectual disturbances that cause the patient to take the piss out of others. TBM is associated with dopamine imbalances in the brain and defects of the frontal lobe and is caused by continued high levels of adrenaline - the result of persistent catching of monster greenbacks.

Is a well documented condition Chris and I know of many people here that are most likely suffering from it. However, I may be deluded, illogical, withdrawn and hallucinating, but there is no way that I have it. Can't speak for Drew on this one though - 100 metre sprints to grab a rod?

Usually prompted by excessive consumption of Bundaberg Rum, this condition as mentioned, effects the area of the brain most vulnerable to addiction and commonly of pomotomus saltatrix in some individuals. Sufferers of TBM can easily be identified by the wearing of nylon footy shorts, flanalette shirts covering flanalette shirts protruding from under fleecy lined flanalette shirts and a ute full of empty coke cans. These poor souls are of the mistaken belief that their madness can be cured by the taking of 7kg fish which of course, as we all know, will never happen.

You can imagine what I was thinking when I walked into the surf at the river mouth this morning, with all the cold fresh water coming out after the rain, taking high steps and trying not to splash. Yes I know that feeling of water splashing up the leg of my shorts only too well Leanne.

Yeah Chris - crabs, stargazer, flathead, glass and the unidentifiable are part and parcel of going waderless. Had a muddy grab a fold of skin on my ankle a couple of months ago and then bolt towards the gutter before I could grab the bugger.

Thanks for your concerns however Chris and as a result, I in turn will show a little more compassion for those sorry individuals that are obviously afflicted here.

I have used waders on the beach & found them really uncomfortable to walk in & very bulky. Anyone wearing waders on the beach or in a river should really have a belt around their waist to prevent water getting in. But I now have an 'altered' pair of neoprene ski pants that work a treat! Got them from the Sallies/Vinnies shop for about $10! They are a really snug fit around the chest & if you don't want the straps, just cut them off to make them into trousers (just above the top of the zip.) I removed the leather bits from the bottom, cut a slit in the side & sewed some 6ml velcro onto both edges. They 'fold over' onto each other & give a snug fit. My fishing boots zip over the bottom of them & keep the sand out & it is really easy to walk in. Great for the rocks, too. I also use them in my kayak when fishing in winter, to keep me warm. If it is really cold, I just put my rashie on to keep the top half warm & an old long sleeved shirt over that, to wipe my hands on (if i've forgotten to take a cloth. ) also keeps the rashie clean.
Easier still is just the lower half of a wetsuit with a good rashie.
