Popped into sports store as they had a small sale on line and noticed shakespeare waders for 69.99.
Tried them on and they felt pretty good.
Just wondering if you wear socks with them and do they really helpwhen beach fishing?

Gold Coast , Queensland. Paradise!
Well I think they help. I always use waders when beach fishing especially when I go to Fraser once a year. I also use a spray jacket which helps keep me dryer and warmer as well.

He who aims at nothing is sure to hit it.
i have heard that they are a little dangerous when you get swamped by water filling them up, then not being able to stand-swim , dont know if thats true but it sounds feasable. hubby

Best waders are horne - but the expense of horne makes snowbee and shakespeare very attractive - you could almost buy two for the price of a single pair of horne but horne are brilliant to stand in the surf for 12-14 hours in if ya that stupid .

I use waders and reckon they are great. I wear socks with them as I find it reduces the likelihood of blisters from the waders rubbing on my heels. It is true that they could fill with water but I'd think the likelihood would be very low since mine come up near my armpits. I don't wade out that far!! I've been told never use them in boats in case it capsizes and then you'd really have a problem. They make a real difference in wintertime and being dry on the drive home after fishing is very pleasant.
Too hot in summer but great in winter to keep out the cold.
Yep, I use them even when it is a little too warm to use them - simply to stay dry. I use socks. I have horne waders now because my old cheapies got a hole at a seam that was impossible to fix. The horne ones don't pinch my hairs so I don't have to wear tracky-daks. They also have quick release straps in case the worst did happen...
I've been bowled over by waves at Fraser a couple of times, wearing my waders and gone A over T. Trust me, you are so quick to stand up again with the hope no fisherman next to you noticed You are lucky to scoop up a cup of water into your waders fishing the beach. It's a different story slipping off a mossy rock fishing freshwater streams in waders. I think in this environment is where waders get their "dangerous" reputation. Socks are good and throw a heap of talcam/baby powder in there too. It will help keep the humidity under control. Keep the powder handy when you are trying to shed the sand from your feet getting back into the truck or tent. Rub the baby powder over your feet and the moist sand will just fall off. Who cares who's watching!! I hate sharing my sleeping bag with sand!!Originally Posted by hubby

I only use it in winter , I use 2 socks to stop blisters , I dont go further to surf only go up to between knee to hip [smiley=happy.gif]
Yep nothing better at 3am in winter to keep out the cold i tuck my jeans into my socks and spray jacket or rain coat to keep the wind out the hardest thing i find is after about 3 hours of that ill go get my collapsible chair to sit in always the way 15 minutes or so get a run you want a laugh see me try to get out of the chair in a hurry
There will be days when the fishing is better than one's most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.
Love 'em on winter nights, if your dry, your warm!
I also tuck socks into long pants.
Have been decked by waves when wearing them, more embarrasing than deadly as you tend to get pushed back up the beach, lol, at least there's no-one around to see in the dark!
Personally, would not wear mine in the boat.
I also use a wetsuit for surf fishing when its not cold enough for the waders, also very good warmth value.
Cheers!
I wear my waders from the end of April to the end of October, always with socks. If you are going to walk a long way in them, as you will if you ever fish with the McAlpine brothers, make sure you tuck your pants down into the boots to avoid chafing.
Shakespeare waders are often on special at the bigger outlets, and I have seen them for as low as $49.99, so shop around. If in doubt about sizing, go up a size, as you can then wear a lot of warm clothes underneath.
I don't fall over often in the surf, but it does happen, and you don't get that much water, but I wouldn't like to fall of a rock platform wearing them.

Always wear the trust Hornes beach fish fishing in winter, with pair of foot socks and track daks.
Brian, thanks for the tip on the talcum powder. Bloody great idea.

On the beach yep yep yep everytime regardless of the time of year. keeps you warmand dry in winter and hot and dry in summer. hate getting back into the car with wet clothing on. My first pair had a hole in one leg that was the pitts love the new set I've got
Rainbow Trout is NOT skittle flavoured fish.........
Horne waders in winter with a pair or two of socks and a pair of tracky daks.
The Horne jackets restrict movement as they're bloody heavy and cumbersome so I tend to go for a lighter weight Columbia spray jacket or raincoat.
Keeps you as warm as toast and stops the odd splash up into the shorts.... i hate that!
