    Hi Fishafreak,
Is 35 cm legal size in QLD or NSW? In NSW I thought there was no legal size and a bag limit of 4? If someone out there knows size and bag limits for both NSW and QLD that would be great. Would be pretty hard tokeep more than one, there are such a beautiful fish. But damn they taste good. Cheers Kim.

    Re: The great Jack challenge!!

They are a great fighting fish thats for sure I have only had one seasion chassing them so far and managed to land 3 in 3 month. the first 2 didnt take my "jack setup" they hit the bream rod i was using! 1/0 white bait no lead. the 3rd one i got was on a 3" stick bait in pumpkinseed, dead low in 3 foot of water!! Didn't feel the hit either was a case of why is my line going that way Was a little confused when i saw him come side up to the surface, silver/green colour with bands.. My mate i was fishing with actually asked me what the hell is that some kinda Pearch!! it didn't take me long to relise i had just caught my first legal jack once it was in the net it turned a deep red colour and my mate was convinced and pissed off Each trip I have been out and got one my friends have missed out one of these days they will learn Lol.. Here are the pics in order of when i got them

1st the hook didn't look good for this little fella but it came out easy and he shot back into the rocks

2nd you can see i am excited and its only 25cms long released of course

3rd measuring 40cms this guy came home with me and was delious!!

3rd again head shot, showing his teeth all fish were caught in the North Pine within 50mtrs of each other

    Cheers and tight lines

Hey ferral Flyer - don't suppose you have aphoto of how you rig a livey do you - sounds interesting but not sure I exactly understand from what you've written.

    Yes,

I am also interested in your live bait rig. I also need help on how to rig up a livie with a STINGER. Not sure about the stinger thing

    Re: The great Jack challenge!!

using a snelled second hook is the key to most Livie stinger setups. I am looking for a good sliding snelled knot to use on different sized livies. if anyone knows of one pls post it!!! (will pull my finger out soon and search for it )

For my current 2 hook livie setup I put one through his nose from the bottom up and the second about 3/4 of the way down the body towards the tail, the less loose line the better i think but you still want him to be able to swim as natually as possable with 2 hooks in him

    Cheers

    Re: The great Jack challenge!!

Only really started targeting this year and have caught plenty. the secret is to find a spot where they live and fish it with dead fresh bait. I catch mre jacks on dead fresh than live bait. This year my average has been about 3 jacks per trip with only one trip where I caught none which was in july. I do live in nq though. They are really on the chew around here at the moment this is probably the best time to chase them now until chrsitmas. The moment the heat begins be ready

    Re: The great Jack challenge!!

Caught one goin 40cm last night at tweed. Caught on berkley powerbait grub in fluro pink. Will post pics when I get them off mates phone. There's a few around, we've got a few in the past three weeks but none over 45cm. I saw a pic of a 150cm jack in anglers warehouse yeserday.

I wouldn't bother rigging two hooks through a live bait as it kills them too quick. One through the nose for whiting and mullet or through the shoulder for herring, silver biddies etc. No point in using live bait if they don't live for more than a few minutes.

Devocean I hear ya. I miss living in Cairns where catching over 5 jacks in a sesh is sometimes the norm. But according to a report I read recently we have bigger estuary jacks down here but sadly not in the same numbers.
