Metal slugs
Hi guys
I'm fishing off the rocks tomorrow off shelly beach towards kings beach and i was wondering if theres a certain tide or size slug that i should no. I have a arange of slugs. I got a 10gram, 15gram, 20gram, 30gram, 40gram and 60gram slugs. Which 1 should i use for spotty mack we hav been getting some good reports for spotty mack. And should i use light spin gear or heavy spin gear.
All help apreciated. Need to no by tonight.

Re: Metal slugs
I would think that your 40g and 60g slugs would mostly come into play for distance on the cast. Not sure what you consider to be light or heavy spin gear Scoocer, but with those weight slugs, 12 - 18lb mono would be as heavy as I would want to go. Early season spotties tend to take larger slugs more readily, but if they won't then you may need to try the 30g which would be hard to achieve distance with when using say 15lb. I use 4kg for spotties with 5 or 6 metres of 9kg leader to avoid casting slugs off, and allows me to use any weight slug with the same outfit. Off the rocks it is not so easy to lift good fish out of the water with the 4kg though and increasing the leader length a little may be necessary. Also depends what you have to work with.
I hope that is useful and that you get a few - looks like a calm morning.

Re: Metal slugs
What about retrieve action? Im thinking about using slugs for trevally around the esturies. All I know is you need to wind them in fast.
Do you skip them across the surface, or let them sink a bit so you can retrieve them a bit below the surface? Would you pause at all, to try and look erractic, or just flat out all the way?
thx

Andrew, am a bit short of time to give you full answers now, but if you have a look at 'Spinning For Tailor' posted by MJC85, there is in depth retrieval descriptions that would apply to your trevs as well.
