Hey guys could anyone give me some advice on catching mangrove jacks in SE Queensland i have heard that the coomera river is a good spot for them in summer. Can anyone give me areas to look for and techniques to use to catch these hard fighting critters.
try catching live poddy mullet 4 bait, then rig them onto a snood set up(2 hooks 1 through the back the other through the lip) we use 50 lb leaders and a sinker on top of the swivel to keep the bait were u want it! this technique landed me and my mate a few last season.
as 4 areas 2 fish we usualy head up the creeks and look 4 rock bars and holes on the bends of the creek keeping close to the mangroves.
one big tip is be very patiant we have sat there 4 hours before landing one.
the jacks we caught last season were caught at night.
cant wait 4 this season! hope this has given u a rough idea. good luck mate!
hey guys thanks for the help will definately be giving them a go have caught a few by accident in the coomera floating dead baits for bream and boy they go hard will definately set out to target them this summer cant wait
Mate have a bit of a browse through the fishing mags at the news agency frm next month on there are always a fe articles on Jack fishing leading up to summer. They are always very informative.
Mate be creative and try to think of the environemtn you are fishing... Try to match the bait in the estuary with a plastic that is simliar.... WORKS A TREAT FOR ALL SPECIES... pretty general... be confident in your own technique also...
?????? Where on the Coomera for the Jacks I have lived on the Coast for 5 years and owned a boat now for 5 months but dont know where to start to catch them any directionscan you message me.
