Coming home to the Gold Coast and need advise.

I still call Australia home, even after nearly 20 years living in Canada. I fly out on Sunday to visit my family and friends and I can't believe it has been 5 years since I breathed Aussie air. I have live in beautiful British Columbia, Vancouver to be precise and although I still have friends down-under, I am not convinced they are as into fishing as they were.
There is no way I am spending three weeks around the Moreton Bay / Gold Coast area without fishing. Any information on a decent guiding outfit would be appreciated, both estuary and ocean fishing. I long to head out in a tinnie in the broadwater and drop some crab traps and throw a line. It only seems like yesterday.

Don't get me wrong, we have some world class fishing in Canada. I gear fish, but mainly fly fish for all five pacific salmon species. Then you add steelhead and trout... Although with the restrictions after 9/11 I won't bother bringing any fly gear. I would really appreciate any information and I would be happy to advise anyone thinking of fishing over on the pacific coast of Canada. Thanks for having a look.

welcome home the seaway is a lot more used now sometimes chocker with boats so it is real tough to catch a fish crabbing same plus you cant take your eyes off you pots this is the price of the coasts success the only thing unspoiled is the reefs they are fishing great good luck

Thanks for taking the time to reply so quickly guys.

Gutzy, I will check out Gone Fishin and don't sweat that I'll pick good weather... I'm not big on leaving my personal berly trail out there.

Wayneoro, I really don't care if I catch much. I grew up throwing my tinnie in the canal at my oldies place at broadbeach and shooting up to the broadwater. Between Fraser Island and Straddie, the Nerang river or Logan, beach fishing along the coast... man, I just miss really it. My wife and daughters are staying in Canada and I'm taking this trip as a personal one.

Do they still rent tinnies at southport? It's funny that I brought my yappie pump over here after I saw they have the exact same things here, but call them ghost shrimp. Great bait for Steelhead (ocean going rainbow trout that grow to 20lb+... that would be nearly 10kilos). Our biggest Salmon is the Chinook and my best is 50lb... yes I could bore you with photos if there is an interest. How about rainbow trout over 10lb...
I still just miss the fishery I grew up with and the relaxed life style. Are the tailor still running at this time of the year?

    Hi Hookset

If you ever get to Wetaskawin you could hook up with my b in law and swap tales with him. He used to be at Kitamat and chased all the stuff your talking abooot up and down the channel etc. Now he does it from his Wetaskawin base.

If your interested, when you get here, I've got room in the tub or the tinny if you want to wet a line. Let me Know post, PM or email Chimo@ausfish.com.au

I'm pretty close to where you used to play with your tinny

    Cheers
    Chimo

Wow, very generous offers folks. I might just have to take someone up, even if I can't get some Tim Horton's coffee in my bag.

I can't PM anyone until I make 10 posts, so I will add some more input if I can find something worthwhile.

    Thanks again.
