    Inconsiderate jetski riders

Was just reading the post about gear found washed up on the beach and read a couple replies that mentioned the antics of some inconsiderate idiots on jet skis and it brought to mind one of the funniest things I had ever seen. Was fishing one morning at Deep Water bend off the bank not far from the boat ramp. Not really catching anything ( big high tide ) but really enjoying the early morning, the smell of the salt water etc. Next thing, some idiot on a jet ski comes roaring around the bend and although he had every right to be there, he could have been a bit more considerate and stayed a bit more than the few meters from the bank that he felt he had to be. After about four such passes, a lady about 30 ( quite fit looking ) of islander decent that was fishing about 10 meters away had had enough and gave the idiot a real spray, telling him to ride somewhere else and to give fisher people a bit of respect. Not to be outdone, the idiot stopped his jetski and proceeded to trade insults with some verbal diarrohea about his right to go where he liked and enjoy his favourite sport wherever he wished. By his reckoning, people fishing were just in his way and the river was for his sport. A couple of lively minutes trading insults and he roars off. The islander lady was really pissed and mumbling "I will show you sport you smart barstard". She then went to her car and came back with a golf club and a half dozen balls. She set the balls up and then went on fishing. A few minutes later, the idiot must have decided to stir her up a bit more and you could hear him coming. He roars about the corner and without a doubt, was gearing up to make the closest pass he possibly could. On hearing his jetski coming, the lady jumps up and grabs her golf club. As this idiot came into range, she let drive with an almighty swing. Whether by devine intervention, luck, or just a bloody good shot, she hit the clown fair in the side of the head and knocked him clean off his jetski. He came to rest about 10 meters out, blood pouring out of a cut on the side of his pumpkin. He was pretty grogy for a bit and I was wondering if he was okay, not that I really cared as I was not going to try and save him. The lady then gave him another lung full about being stupid enough to ride his jet ski on her golf driving range so it was his fault. He did not say a word, just very slowly made his way to his ski, got back on very carefully and ever so slowly went on his way. He did not return. It was great to watch, she could probably try another million times and not hit the mark but it was a classic. I didn't see the same bloke back in the area again. Maybe he died or just maybe, he did learn the lesson of sharing the river and respecting other people.
Be interested to hear other fisho's stories of idiots on jet skis or whatever.

That's the funniest thing I've heard in a long time

Served the smart ass right, though bet she crapped herself for a little bit after!! Would love to have the ability to think so quickly, usually comes to you a couple of hours later when it's all over

Seen jet skiiers just outside the logan river ignore the channel markers and decide to take a short cut across to the powerlines. They spent a good 10 minutes mowing seaweed as it's only 1 ft of water across where they were going. At one stage, one of them had to dismount and clear out the intake before very carefully going on his merry way again!!

Lovely stuff Gumtree. They're pretty bad on the Pine I notice too.

Been many times I've wanted to cast a 65g slug with 5/0s attached at them but if I was to get a result like the golf ball it may not turn out so well for all concerned. Sometimes I'll fire one across the bow though. Noosa River mouth is becoming impossible to fish successfully at times as a result of the jetski traffic. By the same token, many of the riders have no awareness that they might frighten the fish away - yes they are stupid, and they do have certain rights on the water that are governed by legislation. As frustrating as it is, it is something that we almost have to accept without arguement if they are abiding by the law. If you stand in the water they have to keep some distance as you become a bather - 50 or 60 metres (?) but otherwise they can come as close as they like is my understanding. Someone will give us a clarification here.

She can come down here and play golf with some of the idiots of the jestskis that we get.

What is it, they turn on the ignition and it turns the brain off?

I love the fact that it was a woman, That means that it was the right thing to do isn't that right girl ausfishers. She hit him and still told him off! who cares if he was nearly dead. Bloody jet skier, just his luck a bull shark ate him on the way back.

Can't label all jetskiers as idiots, it's not my cup of tea, but I'm sure a majority of em are at least somewhat considerate, it's just idiots like 3 eyes there that stuff it for the considerate respectful ones. Being on a kayak it is often a concern constantly battling their wash, sadly there's not much that can be done, but pick up and move off.

Well that story sure got the smile on my dial. Too funny!
It wouldn't have been nearly as funny if it was a different situation not involving a loud mouthed arrogant jetskier. I personally have a pet hate for them because they always seem to push the limits when it comes to being thoughtful to others on the water. There are some considerate ones but I have to say they are a minority group. I'd love to have witnessed that and given the lady pro golfer the applause she so rightfully deserved. I especially liked the bit about jetskiing on her golf driving range. [smiley=thumbsup.gif] [smiley=tekst-toppie.gif]

Mate had to read that one out to the deckie she was wondering why i was laughing so much

There will be days when the fishing is better than one's most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.

    Superb post Gummtree.

Yer, i dont have any sympathy for the bastards.

It is evident that their numbers are growing and it is also evident that it would be good for the human race to remove a few of them from the gene pool before there is a population explosion. And we thought Carp were a nasty introduction to our waterways, well compared to Jet Skiers, i'll take the Carp any day.

So, i propose we consider an open season on them. Say, November to March, bag limit of 5 per person per day, nothing under 1 meter in length. Visually, it would be kind of like popping those steel ducks with the Beebee guns down at the fair, a moving target, rather challenging but ridding the planet of another enviromental pest.
    Would do wonders..........................................
