hey guys and girls
i am just wondering wether poddy mullet are good bait when they are dead. Also does any body know how you could keep poddy mullet alive at home i.e. what type of tank needed, and what filter is needed.
Anyway thanks see yaz

They are certainly much better alive than dead that's for sure. Too keep them alive at home is going to be a lot harder than you think because they are not a very hardy species as they are difficult to feed. I come from a Aquarist background having spent 5 years in an actual aquarium shop which had an extensive setup for MArine fish and poddy mullet were never kept. You would need a proper marine tank to set them up in but I would not recommend going through that amount of trouble. If you still want to try you can get back to me as I would be happy to run through setting a saltwater tank up with you if that's what you really want to do.

He who aims at nothing is sure to hit it.
They are definitely better alive than dead but can be used effectively on a set of hooks and 'swum' though the water similar to a WA pilchard. I've never tried to keep live bait at home, I reckon they would become pets and I could never explain to the kids that I use the pets for bait
better live thats for sure
i have kept them at home succesfully for up to 5 days in an aerated fish box, not much longer though.
cheers Maxi
As maxwellson says, aerator for the day.
Collect the day before, keep overnight, bait the next day!
Gets pretty pricey if you want to keep 'em alive indefinitely in an aquarium.
You say fish, I say yes please.
MATE ONE WEEK MAX......A REGULAR FISH BOX WITH AERATOR ETC WILL SUFFICE....HOWEVER U WILL PROBLY HAV 2 CHANGE THE WATER ALMOST EVERY DAY....OTHERWISE THEY WILL DROP LIKE FLIES.....
DOSENT WORK AS WELL AS U WOULD THINK.....IVE TRIED......

I usually use the poddy mullet in the estuaries. Presumably they are also alright outside. Has anyone tried this? Any success? Cheers. G.
