Howdy
Going over to Straddie 21-24 Oct for some R&R and also to drop a line. Staying at Amity, don't have a 4WD nor a boat.
I normally fish just off the Rockwall/Beach at Amity and have had a crack at the surf beach near Point Lookout. Have only got one really nice fish so far.
I need any hints, tips, places for me and the mrs to go and get some nice fish...I have rods, reels and rigs for just about anything!

I suggest having a fish off the rocks at cylinder beach... I went there with my missus not too long ago... about 14months ago... I used some pippies and got into some really nice bream, flathead, dart and tarwhine... Later that arvo the area was plagued by tailor... Just make sure you bring a rod with a metal slug... You never know what may attack it...

You can take a 2wd to the causeway, opposite Dunwich on the surf side. There should be some gutters within walking distance from there. Should be plenty of dart there and maybe some bream or tailor.
There are a few places on the beach you can get to without a 4wd.
Keep going on the road thru Amity, past the seafood sellers, onto the gravel.
Its usually a good surface. Take that to a parking area at the top end of Flinders. Ive caught whiting and some good bream(over 35cm) right there.
Fresh worms and pippies as bait.
From the same spot go right along the beach(not left) for about 300 yards till you come to a sand point. If there is a decent gutter there is usually tailor in the late afternoon.
Another one.
Driving out of Amity on the way back to dunwich, when you reach the honey farm, turn left not right. follw the road thru Flinders village, to the end of the gravel again. You are now in the middle of Flinders beach with hopefully a good gutter in front of you.
Again.
Go to Dunwich and take the road over the island past the lakes and golf course. When the bitumen runs out, turn right and go across the causeway. Have a look first to make sure its not to soft. Usually isnt.
Park near the top of the dune and go for a walk. You should find some decent holes and gutters within a couple of hundred yards. If its low tide ther will be pippies and worms everywhere. Take a bucket.
There is a bloke in point lookout who sells fresh worms. Hes off George Nothling drv. You will see his sign. This road is the 4wd access to Main beach . The same as the others. Go to the end of the gravel and have a look. Usually some good holes up this end of Main beach.

If ur staying in amity even off the jetty there is nice stuff to along the rock walls is also great pretty much any gutter along main has dart there everywhere. If u fish around cylinder go up a bit there is a rock called kunji or cunji (dunno how to spell it) drop a line near there's usually heaps of dart and some bream or if its low tide sumtimes there a bank right out u can walk onto and cast out of that and theres nice whiting.
If your in a bout around amity sumtimes u can see birds diving into bait balls or try around the rouse channel alot of places to fish around up that way. you can motor down to myora light. you can get nice parrot around there.

Just got back from school hols over at Amity.
Heaps of gar off the jetty (keeping for macks).
Plagues of small dart on Main and Flinders, u need to cast way out the back for bigger green backs, but they are there.
Schoolies in the Rainbow and Rous, mostly rats though, with bonito mixed in.

JUST HAD A WEEK AT AMITY - TAILOR FROM THE ROCK BUND WALLS AT THE CAMPING AREA, GOOD BREAM. TAILOR AND SCHOOLIES FROM THE ROUS AND MACK TUNA IN THE RAINBOW CHANNEL. YOU NEED SMALL LURES TO CATCH THE SMALLER MODELS THOUGH. THE BIGGER TUNA TAKE RAIDERS / SLUGS O.K
THE MACK TUNA WERE COMING WITHIN CASTING RANGE FROM THE BANK.
THE SCHOOLIES WEREN,T LEGAL BUT.
