Kingfisher Bay Jetty

Does anybody know if i can take my little man fishing off the jetty at Kingfisher bay or is the jetty just for kingfisher bay residents?

You are able to fish from the jetty at King Fisher Bay even if you are not staying there. They even have a little jetty hut to pick up any spare fishing gear / bait and also hire fishing rods (although they aren't great my my standards). Excellent fishing to be had in winter especially if you can get there right on sun up up till the first hour of light.

By excellent fishing I mean that you'll be changing lures just because you haven't caught fish on that type of lure. Again that was in winter we picked up heaps of tailor and trevally including one golden of about 6kg which we lost under the jetty pylons. All but two fish were released during our stay there. The usual species can be caught there and you will be surprised at the size of the herring schools that hang around the jetty(take a bait jig/cast net). If your lucky you will also be able to pick up squid which you can sight fish for along with some other species of fish. Take a squid jig just in case.

Didn't have as much luck in the other seasons as winter but fish are sure to still be around. Best fish off the jetty for us was a shovel nose shark about 5ft long, which was again released . One of the best land based options I have fished (if you can call an island land based?) A safe spot for the kids too. Good luck.

I think you will find that throwing a cast net from a jetty is illegal...!
Even on frazer, Stick with the bait jigs though.....

Top spot to fish, I live just across the Straits and look over on it everyday. Plenty of Mackerel at the moment.

Dont fish to light, and be prepared to be spooled, by that I mean take some extra line with you.

Live herring and wait, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

I fished the jetty on an incoming tide one morning in May about two years ago using hired gear (which was crap) from the boatshed.

There were heaps of schools of baitfish about and they were regularly being harassed by school mackeral and trevally.

In two short hours, using frozen hardy heads as bait, I caught three mackeral, a 2 kilo trevally, two flathead (around 50cm), three bream and a small estuary cod.

Also gotten biiten off twice by monsters and had my line cut three times by mackeral striking at the sinker on the way down. If only I had my own gear and a few lures and soft plastics!!
