reckless position of crab pots (having a whinge)

Took some family from out of town to wavebreak for a picnic and thought that I saw a bit of rubbish in the middle of the channel in front of the versace.
Went to pick it up and some idiot had placed a crab pot right in the middle of the busiest waterway of the gold coast.
    VERY DANGEROUS!! > > > >
I was very annoyed at this as it was an accident waiting to happen.
I hope I dont get abused for this but I picked it up and moved it a few metres out of the way.
I am unable to comprehend the persons thoughts when placing a pot there.
To make matters worse when we got to wave break I simply dropped everyone off went out about 2 metres anchored jumped into waist depth water and that was it.
I witnessed one idiot in a very expensive boat SQUEEZE into a narrow spot between two other boats and anchor down but this is where it gets good.
He tried to get the back anchor onto the beach and in doing so tangled his with two others(wash moved boat around) after untangling he tried another few times then decided to pack up and move down further where get this:
HE DID THE EXACT SAME THING!!!!
He finally got wise and left altogether.
    Some people.

mate i got a bit pi$$ed at all the crab pots in nundah creek too , try fishing plastics when every side creek or snag has a float in front of it > , some wankers dont have a clue i love watching boaties ( well there not boaties they just own a boat ) and some off the things that they do today we had a good laugh we sat out the front of the horny brook bridge haveing a fish and laughing so hard we watched boat after boat hit the sand banks would have seen at least 5 boats run a ground in 20min , we were a good 200m away and we could see the sand banks from where we were. and what was better one off them after he hit the sand give it full throttle (forwards) to try and get off but he was going into shallower water . lmao

I saw the same thing today Nico...

Was having a few casts off the rock wall in the entrance of the Tweed...

An expensive bowrider comes along showing off to his mates in his boat...

And instead of paying attention to the navigation beacons... he decides to take a short cut and disregards the port beacon...

Seconds later he hits a sand bank...

I had a good laugh and thought... Can you still find a boat license in your Kelloggs Cornflakes box?

Gutzy and Nico - at least you can see them floats! I hate it when I am throwing SP's around the creeks and snag up - fair enough you expect it when getting close to structure etc - then after a few hours you see some blokes throw out a grapnel to drag up their sunken pots!

    GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!
You say fish, I say yes please.

    Yeah
I've noticed that alot of crab pots have been placed in the middle of channels at the Goldy of late as well.

Maybe the Ports authourity or VMR should remove them as "being a danger to navigation"

Re: reckless position of crab pots (having a whing

I thought the fisheries blokes did move them - they certainly have provision to do so under the legislation in place, if they think a pot is in a dangerous position they just pull it up and take it, they don't move it.

If the markers are per the rules, they may contact the owner by post to come collect their traps, but I bet most don't.

Flamin morons to put a pot in the main channel of any waterway!

official type publications say it is illegal to touch, let alone move, any crab gear that is not your own, whether abandoned or not.

As far as I am concerned, if it comes up on my tackleback with my lure attached, I am more than prepared to front a magistrate etc, but I drop them back where I hooked 'em, unless they are abandoned, in which case I hoik 'em up the bank. By abandoned I mean reasonably new, and no float and no bait. At least that way the owner can get them back. If they are baited up, even if stinky, back they go.

Can't recall ever running a lure into a pot with a float. But have spent a few bucks on outboard repairs from when I ran over an abandoned one at speed. Serves me right for planing in 2 feet of water. Abandoned pots make such good flathead artificial reefs
