Had the day off work today boys and hit the canals.........

In the morning i targetted whiting around the council chambers with prawns, caught two small ones and had numerous bites by what i think were more small ones, still to land a decent whiting this spring.............buggered if i can catch them.
Mid way through the session my second rod took off, reel screeming and rod arked over. Turned out to be a sting ray, never realised the ran like that. In the past for me they have always been like pulling in lead weights.

So that was the morning, then went home and took a break and had lunch.

After lunch i fished a few bridges and got a few medium bream then tried the spit and got nothing.

Later on i moved back into the canals for more medium bream. However, this boy landed his first Jack for the season. Beautiful looking fish, small, didnt measure but about 25cm and put on a good fight for a baby, released of course.
The spot i caught it will have to remain a secret because i intend to go back next weekend but it was caught on prawn.
After that i landed a flatty.

So all in all a good days fishing, lots of small and medium fish but good variety. The trevs and decent whiting still ellude me this spring but no doubt with patience they will come.

Look for a undulating bottom for the whiting early start before traffic is better.cheers
