    Logan River

    G'day all,

The other day I was a little bored so I decided to go for a bit of a drive and wound up at Skinner Park on the banks of the Logan River.

It appeared quite a fishy place. Does anybody fish this stretch of the Logan River often and if so what are the usual catches?

Catfish with the possibility of bream, sharks and mudcrabs. I did see a bloke catch an undersize Jewy there a couple of months ago. The boat ramp is ordinary to say the least, but it is $5 cheaper than the one at Carbrook

Bad muddy boat ramps aside... The mouth of the logan is very surprising... Get all kinds of species and some good size ones aswell. It has its runs of all kinds of things there. But just for a relaxing day on the water. I wouldnt get too serious..

Although i was catching whitting in 1 metre of water with my nephew who's 10. Dropping it under the boat with the tinyest bit of bait (about a 1cm cube of squid), he landed a 2kg tailor, 3 big flounder, 51 cm flatty, and about 30 winter whitting.

Have been out there a few times with the oddbudman.

Mainly catching bream and flatty, although i know it is possible to get dew, jacks and a few other species in the logan.

Not bad for a cruisy day out on the water tho!

Well I just got back after trying the middle reaches of the Logan for the first time.

I put in at Skinner Park and fished the middle reaches hoping to pick up a little shark but unfortunately, I didn't catch any.

Never-mind, I still enjoyed my day out sitting on the water in nice surrounds.

hey mate bad luck on the fishing next time try out the boat ramp at the end of alberton road a much better ramp might be on the wrong side of the river for you though ??? The logan can be a little bit hit and miss but well worth a fish particularly at the mouth, the junction, marks rocks or lone pine all these spots do produce good fish depending on what you are chasing. Better luck next time mate

    Re: Logan River

I grew up on that stretch of the logan and my parents still live there , we have caught countless amounts of jacks and big cod within 1 km either side of the skinners ramp , heres a tip there is a mid river rock bar within that area not hard to find, try some vertical jigging with softies on a stinking hot january day at the top or bottom of the tide that coinsides with the first or last few hours of light . Thats all i'll say because my brother is still at home and is always down there getting amoungst them and after 20 years of having it to ourselfs he will now wonder what all these boats are doing jigging his rocks
and dont be afraid to have a pillie floating out the back while jigging you will be a sure thing for a shark and beleive me there not all small
