    Gulps for trevs...?

    Hey guys,
had noticed a few people using the Gulp turtle back worms, particularly for trevs, lately in the reports section. Just had a few questions. I've got the 4" models in pumpkinseed, what sort of hook size are we talking for these? They're pretty long and I don't want to miss hook-ups with too small a hook, but I don't want to impede their action with too big a hook. Second, how do you fish them? Seeing as I'll be trying for trevally I was thinking a fast jig when weighted, or unweighted and sort of slither them across the top of the water. Any other ideas?? Third, any other species I'm likely to encounter with these fellas. Will be trying them around the jetty and wrecks at Moreton next week. Cheers for any advice/info fellas.

I've only ever got Trevs as a bycatch on Gulps while chasing Bream.

On the Gulps that I've got them on being the 3"minnow grub 2"shrimp or 6"worm the hooks have all been No1 with the weight to suit the run of tide.

No probs with them coming of.

Trevs love gulps. They usually hit head first so don't worry too much about the length of the sp.
If they miss the hooks they will keep on hittin untill they don't

Trevs like to hit it on the bottom - well usually - when they're on the chew they'll hit them anywhere - but when they aren't they'll be looking to the bottom third of the water column. You will have to try different retrieves to see what works - sometimes they like it quite quick - it gets them excited - other times just hop it across the bottom they'll hit it on the drop - even scoop it directly off the bottom. Others times jerky movements will entice a strike.

You will feel a bit of a tap as the trev knocks it, then either let it drop or give it a couple of short jerks - like its just been stunned and then let the sp drop - the trev will hit it as it drops - thinking its injured it.

Heres a pic of a GT I got off the rocks at airlie beach on Sunday - sp was a 5inch gulp jerkshad - but the best performers for my money on trevs are the powerbait realistic series - I used gulps cause it was still dark.

Hope that helps and good luck.

Thank you for the very detailed info adam, I appreciate your help. Here's hoping there'll be some reports of trevs near the tanga wrecks in the next few days
