I think you have a serious problem...what a load of crap waking at 1am or even 2am to go fishing..what is wrong with you blokes...you need some help.

Hell, you get home from work...you pack the gear and away you go..I am disgusted that you blokes waste time sleeping...time to lift your game guys.

    problem, what problem...

nothing like heading to your favourite spot at 1 in the morning, no waiting at the ramp, short walk from the car back to the boat, fresh air and sunrise on the water.

Just a little extra to add to my story:

Up at 3am this morning, in the car at 3.30am - put key in the ignition and fire up the car..... phone rings..... charter cancelled.......Sh*t, sh#t, sh@t.

can't waste a day off, so down to the canals for some early morning bream fishing.

mate when we're sharking we usually drop our baits at midday and wait sometimes til 10am the next day before we bring em in - we sleep beside the rods! we do this for consecutive days on end! so no, you're just committed - hopefully it'll heed results!

Only fisherpersons can wake up before the sparrow farts to do some early morning fishing, come home empty handed and then do it all again the next day.

Sleep when you dead...............fish when you are alve

Re: am i the only one?

M8, I was on a project over in Oman a few years back. I made friends with the local tuna fisherman, and was out on the water every weekend or every opertunity I could. Like all good things, it came to a sad end when we finished of with the project on that side. Great people and some of the best fishing I have ever experienced.

I then was posted to another project in a part of the world where the fishing just sucks. It was not a month after I arrived that I got a phonecall from my old tuna fishing friends, the schools of submarines (monster yellow fin) are back - should they keep me a spot on a boat?

Spoke with the boss, he had not problems with it and I was off straight after work the same day. (I was doing 90 hour weeks at that point and he felt that I needed some time off to just go and relax. Little did he know what my idea of relaxing is)

Directly home after work to get the fishing gear, and then off to the airport. I arranged my plane ticket whilst driving home. Finally got everything booked and i was safely on the plane that same evening. A 1 hour hop across the pond and I am back on my old stomping grounds.
Finally get through customs and out the aiport at midnight.
Now for a 340 km drive through two mountain passes along roads where camels, goats and donkeys have a nasty habit of doing damage to your radiator and windscreen.

Get to the little town just before 4 in the morning. (I usually get up at 4 to go to work, so I have been on my feet for 24 hours by now with no sleep at all. While waiting in the departure lounge I was too excited to sit still, never mind thinking about much needed sleep)

Slept for 45 minutes, and then off to the boats and meeting up with the dayshift crew that will be fishing that day. Things looked good with the night shift crew returining with some massive tuna.

Fished the whole day and came back ashore by 8 that evening. Clean the boat, the catch and get ice for the next day. Have a shower, something to eat and asleep by midnight. (Should I mention no shade on the boat and 50 degree heat.)
Repeated that the next day, on the water by 5 and back by 8 at night.
The next day, out at 5 again but back in by 3 in the afternoon. Things are going to be close getting back to the airport in time.... Said goodbye to all my fishing friends who just shook their heads. Fly all that way to catch fish but dont even take one fish home with him. The sun must have baked the rocks that is in his head.

Finally made it back and at home in my own bed by 12 that evening.
Back up at 4 and behind my desk by 05h30.

I was friggin knackered and could barely keep my eyes open during all the meetings that day.

Will I ever do such a stupid and insane thing again - I am just waiting for that phonecall and then I am off again.....
