It is something I have never really taken any notice of on the basis that any time fishing wether they are on the chew or not is time well spent. # That said with time getting scarcer and fuel more expensive I am wondering about peoples opinions on wind direction verses catch rates. I am hoping to head out Saturday with the SE blowing and chase macs however I note that Sun is forcast for wind to be from the NE. Any opinions on the better choice??

said this lots of times, i have yet to see it windy UNDERWATER just fish the winds that suit the location for comfort and safety!
I agree with you Noelm, that is how I have fished for the last 40 years, however I would like any chance to increase catch rates
I think current has more bearing on catch rates than wind direction, there is an old saying "no run, no fun" I have fished some places in all winds and the results where more or less the same, but I have a few spots that I only fish in certain winds, but this is because of the bottom structure, like in a north east wind, I like to anchor so I am on the edge of the reef, but if it where a South wind, I would be right up on the "hard" and only get crappy stuff, so I go to the other end on that reef in a southerly, and fish that edge with good results.
i agree aswell, i certainly have noticed that the fish bite better on a SE wind, but i'm not really sure why they bite poorly on a NE wind; maybe its the change in surface, changing the light, or the currents, but i think that only comes with a NE swell.
cheers

anything from the north over about 10 knots seems to have a negative impact and any winds from the south seem to have a beneficial effect from what I've seen.
A NWer is definitely the worst wind, both for it's effect on the fish and the crappy seas it tends to produce

northwest winds are a definite turnoff round the moreton area, a stay at home wind, re fishing the reef area.
When the wind is in the west the fish are at their best
Tight lines <*)(((((((((><
from the nth and n/west are hopeless
