Legal size for moses pearch?

Hey anglers,

I recently went on a trip out around the pin and caught 8 moses pearch along with 6 bream and a little cod and was thinking about taking one home and giving it a try however, i didnt because i didnt know the legal size for them. In conclusion does any one know the legal size and bag limits if there are any, and also whether they are any good on the table.

Moses are great on the table... legal size is 25cm. However, make it a rule of @ least 30cm as 25 is too bloody small imo.

I've never seen a moses perch that went 30cm.... I've only ever caught one legal sized one.

Offshore they grow to decent sizes, up to about 50cm. I've seen one caught at Deep Tempest that went about 3kg. They must live inshore in the bay and estuaries as juveniles and then go to sea as they mature. They are fabulous eating fish. Unfortunately they attack a bait savagely and are frequently hooked quite deeply. I lose a lot of hooks cutting them off rather than trying to get the hook back and risk killing a beautiful fish. Legal size ones are fairly rare inshore although you'll catch a few around the bay islands such as Peel.

Yet an other example of different states and different regs. In NSW there is NO legal length and a bag limit of 5. (NSW recreation salwater fishing guide 2006-2007 booklet,) One day the states will get there act to gether and make standard regs Aust wide.

I too have seen one caught offshore that would have been just pver 60cm.

It was a beaut fish and caught on the charterboat I used to work on. we caught it on a reef just off of bribie.

I think we tried to trade him the fish for a few others... not a chance

No bag limit in QLD but size limit of 25cm, Bag limit of 5 in NSW but no size limit. Apparently they grow to 90cm+ but I've only seen them to 7kg.

I catch some pretty much every trip to the reef.The smaller ones 25-35cm are used as live or dead bait(along with any stripeys and fusilier). The larger ones are as good eating as just about any reef fish imho.

25 cm however i have to agree 30cm and above is a respectable size

They is 25cm. caught a few that were over the limit at Hervey Bay and Woodgate.

just caught my first legals in the burrum river system they are everywhere it seems maybe they have hit on perfect breeding conditions etc
