    Broardwater hot spots

Going down to the GC broardwater tomorrow with the tinnie car topper and 6hp, any ideas on what was going on. Got all day and going to soak baits and throw sp's and minnows, thinking of Crab island and the rock walls near wave break and the seaway. Any help would be great, thanks Min

As per the previous message - watch the current near the seaway and the wall.

Even my 25hp gets a work out up there and apart from that, you can't get bait anywhere near the bottom. the current carries the bait 100m behind the boat before it has even dropped 3m down into the water.

Wavebreak island is the one right in the middle of the braodwater seaway. When you are travelling from the ocean into the broadwater, it is straight in front of you.

Around the southern side of wavebreak, there are some little passages - fish the walls of the passages. The water drops from 1m down to 10-15 m. good flathead and bream as well as whiting in the shallows.

you can also cast around the rock wall on the southern tip of wavebreak.

I'd stick to that southern tip of wavebreak as it gives you many options.

I've also picked up tailor on sunset at the same place. Just be aware that there are a lot of lagoon rays and grinners.....

You can put the boat in at the southport fishing club just near the pool.

mate the broadwater is full of large big boats whose wake churns up the ocean floor creating waves that could well sink a dingy in my opinion the broadwater is a foolish place to fish plus little chance of catching anything

    Re: Broardwater hot spots

Has anyone actually had good catches regularly around the broadwater? I don't expect anyone to give away their secrets, a yes will suffice. I have fished it so many times with the best catch being a 4 foot shovel nose. I have heard of good catches of flathead, whiting etc however I have yet to actually take anything home. I agree with wayne however it is like some form of extreme fishing trying to drop a line around there with all the "watersports enthusiasts" and larger boats but it has made for some interesting bottom structure in places. Just can't unlock the secret I guess. Anyway let us know what you have caught there.

Just be on the water at dawn. I've found that very few big cruisers and watersports people like to get up as early as us.

Yes to the broadwater, it has quite good deep water access as well as sand shallows so plenty of variety, just steer clear of the main channels where the big cruisers like to go.

Also try some of the canal systems.
You say fish, I say yes please.

Ha Ha speaking of Cruisers I headed across to the seaway between the rock walls on new years day... what a ride i couldnt have timed it better... 5 big 40ft+ pulling 20knts came down the main ch!!! Man their wakes were 3 ft high my new 60hp savage 4.5 sport fisherman was like a bobbing cork . Lets just say I pretended I was outside the bar lol!
Im yet to really have a good go at the Broardy but Im sure around the walls and river mouths would give best results. Good luck.

The Broadwater is a place you need to spend some time in to find out what works and when to fish it. I catch squire, flathead, bream, whiting, tailor, trevors, so it does produce if you put in the time.

youe seriously catch that sort of variety in the broadwater beeracudda? without invading all the hard work and effort you.ve put in there, what sort of baits/plastics do you find are worth using?

    Wink broady hot spots

if you go down to paridise point on the northern end of the broadwater there is a good boat ramp their are some great banks and rock walls not far from the ramp and boat traffic is not so bad lures or bait are all good things there ask the guys at the tackle shop they will give you a few tips for sure but really be careful if you want to go near the seaway it can be very dangerous for the inexperienced lots of luck mate tight lines bluefin

Not a problem getting the bait to the bottom of the Seaway but you just need to be aware of the tides and time yourself.
But with your setup I'd suggest not wasting your time in the Seaway during the day.

    Mate,

that wave break island should be called suicide island, what a disgrace Was down there for a fish on aus day, left early all pretty good, generally leave from raby bay or manly in brisvegas (used to seeing some traffic at the ramp), I have never seen anything like it, what a circus coming back in to put the boat on a trailer, 20- 30 jet skis doin 30 or 40 knots at the ramp, going in every direction, half a million dollars of boat and driver in front of me that has no idea where he and the family are going.

20 million worth of cusiers on the beach and 5 times the people to match, 10 or so boats on the beach ( got no idea whether they were lining up for the ramp or just picknicking), people everywhere!!!!!!!.

I almost broke my neck trying to keep up with it all.. Fishing?????????? on the broadwater??????????? you can keep that...

    Regards

ummm fishing on Australia Day... on the Broadwater to the Pin... as you rightly pointed out you can forget it as anything that floats is out that day. Except me because I'll leave that to the once a year boaties.
Great the rest of the time though especially weekdays.
This last week has been great.
