    Mounting GPS receiver

Just got a gps receiver for my Matrix 27 combo. The booklet says it can be flush mounted on the dash, but needs to have good view of the sky. Got the data cable and software update.

Does the metal in bimini tops frame and bow mount frames interfere with gps at all? My bow mount frame also goes over my windscreen as a protector, its a runabout style, forward controls, 4.5 alum boat. I want to mount it right on the dash as this looks like the most protected place from damage.

I assume that with plenty of satellites and a 16 channel reciever, it wont be an issue. I'll run a test drive before I mount it permanently. Just lookin for any extra advice from those who know.

    cheers

Whilst there are lots of satellites, there will only be a low number in view at any time. I have a 16 channel reciever too but I am fairly sure that most times there are only 15-16 in view. So if you are shielding one or two then your position error might increase. Mount your Rx temporarily on a small piece of wood and lay it or tape it to the dash and try it out first.

I have a half cabin and I have mounted mine just forward of the windscreen on the port side. Seems to work fine.
