    Sonar/GPS Combos

Does anyone run a combined Sonar/GPS combo, I am thinking of one mainly due to space limitations.

Any recommendations or feedback on any unit greatly appreciated

    Thanks JK

    Goodaye JohnK,

I am waiting for my new boat to be delivered. It comes with an Eagle 1000c fishstrike. All the info I have been able to get tells me that this unit is good. However some say that seperate units are better because you dont have to change or split screens. The main issue with all these tools is the cost of all the charts needed for the unit. Some costing as much as $400 + Depending on how far you wander around the coastline.
Read the messages posted on this site re quality of charts for your prospective unit as the quality may sway you to different units.

In some respects I think that there is less to attract the evil eyes of a would be thief if there is only one unit on the dash of the boat. However they are removable.

If you purchase seperate units you may find that you spend more dollars than for just the one unit.

Personal choice is what its all about.

I have a Raymarine 760 on the CC. Three years ago that was the only waterproof colour combo on the market. Space on the console was also a big factor. I have used the 760 with no problems at all. The screen is 7 inch so even in sonar/plotter mode the picture is easy to read. The newer combos are more user friendly& probably cheaper.
The attached pic shows the setup & the lack of space.
    ROLL TIDE, ROLL.................

I have the Navman Trackfish 6600. Great unit, big easy to read colour screen, easy to split or swap between screens.

I think the bagging of combo units is a bit out of date, as these things are now easier to use, cheaper and very easy to read. Do your research & go for it.

I have the Garmin GPSMap 178C and I'm very happy with it so far.
If I had the room I would definately go for two units, but the screens are quick and easy to split and/or swap, so it's not a huge problem.

    cheers,
