    Gidday Gav
I have the X47EX on my 4.2m quintrex explorer. I fish the creeks and inshore reefs of Townsville and it suits my needs just fine. Easy to use and durable. If you get one make sure you read your manual and have a play so that you can get the best out of your functions. My unit was $340 bought and installed FYI.

    Thanks Damo

The 47EX was the one I was thinking about...................looked pretty easy to use and had some nice features compared to others in the same price range.

Gav, If you have not bought the 47 yet and not in a hurry to buy I was told at the beginning of the week that BigW are having the 47 on sale in the next few weeks. So if you want to wait it maybe worth while as I'm also thinking of getting the 47

Sorry mate, it's the cuda 128 that is on sale http://www.bigw.com.au/catalogue%201...e/index01.html
the draw back is in the pixle count
    x47.... 168v x 132h =22,176
    cuda... 128v x65h =8,320
big difference I think for the extra money I'll go the x47

    Re: Lowrance X47

The Fishfi nder display makes everything
appear to be directly under the boat
even if it is not. Here’s why. The
    transducer transmits the sound
wave pulse in a cone shape.
    The Fishfi nder image simply
    captures everything that enters the
sound wave cone. It doesn’t know the
position of a fi sh within the cone, only the time an
echo return from that fi sh was received. The Fishfi nder software
compresses all the fi sh found within the cone into a single vertical line beneath the
transducer. The resulting display indicates that all the fi sh are directly under the boat.
When more than one fi sh is found at the same range even though they are in different
parts of the cone. They will all be measured at the same range, and therefore appear to
be only a single fi sh.

    Re: Lowrance X47

i have the plain x47 and i can't see the extra $$'s in the x47ex

it is a great little sounder that suits my need for rivering fishing and shows up enoght info on the screen for my lure casting needs and even some bait fish school
in saying how great they are but they are still the bottom of the line sounders so if you could screch to a better sounder then do that
