I've heard somewhere that its a good idea to run a sounder through a seperate battery to get the most accurate readings... Can anyone confirm this? It would be a lot easier for me to attach to the existing 12V marine battery but i want to do what it takes to get the most out of it. Running off the battery allready is the electric starter, nav lights and the 2 way radio. The sounder is a matrix 25 with gps and weathersense (dont know if this is relevant???) Any help would be much appreciated!
Can't see a single battery setup affecting the accuracy,it may however lead to a low voltage spike when you crank the motor over, the problem could be made worse if your motor has a high output alternator and it sends a high spike through it when it fires,I've been told that if your useing a single battery setup you should turn off the GPS and Sounder when starting your motor.
I run a seperate battery 12v 12 amp hour (Tiny battery fits in side pocket of boat)...can obtain them for scrap price of a few $ ..from places like battery world..they come out of electric wheel chairs/scooters they are still good, just wont push the chair/scooter as far.
Very good batteries for things like sounders or 2 way radio's..ect...
I ran everything from 1 battery for nearly 3 years with no problems before I put a 2nd battery in for safety. If the battery is looked after it shouldn't be a problem.

This little tip helps as well if run the tranducer lead to the oppsite side of the electrical leads the will stop interference giving you more accurate reading as well
