no luck with electronics over X-mas

Gone to Evans Head to do some long awaited fishing over X-mas. Taken 'Junior', the little edgetracker, down to get christened and blooded. All is going excellent til the new fishfinder goes on the blink. Bugger. It went for a whole 3 and 1/2 minutes.
    That's OK, things break.
Gone out outside for an early (4.30) fishing trip off Evans the next day in the 5m Bertram happy as Larry as it has just had a new GPS (updated the handheld to a fixed unit) and a new 27Meg radio (just a straight replacement for an older unit. Same brand, same model) installed.
Well b-gger me, The GPS got us to 100m of the secret snapper spot and then stops. B-gger.
We find the secret spot X with the sounder OK and get some fish and at 6.00 we thought we better give Coast Guard Evans head a call to log on officially. We could hear everybody else having a good natter but nobody could hear us. B-gger again.
We get back to Evans river and give Coast Guard a call and they could just hear us 300m away. B-gger, B-gger.
Put the old radio back in and do a radio check and life is good again. We can go outside fishing again.

Do many people have this much trouble with brand spanking electronics??
    P.S. The fishing was good
PPS Not looking forward to taking all this gear back this week and luckily it was all brought at different shops. Might seem a bit sus otherwise.

a huge thank you!!!!! to Brisbane Coastguard who put up with the cutting in and out of the vhf, until we swapped and successfully radio checked the elderly 27meg over the long weekend

Nuthing like a few teathing problems to get ya blood boiling

Sounds like you guys may have had antena problems did either of you guys install the antena?? The plug needs to be installed coreectly on the end of the cable to plug into the VHF or it hasn't got a chance of working... this is common with the recieve and no send scenario
