Sorry if this has been done to death before, I have just moved from Darwin to Townsville and was wondering what is the best c-map to get "or other brands of card " I have the Navman 5500. that show all the fishing zones etc, as this is all new to me, also could anyone living in Townsville be able to tell me the cheapest place for this type of stuff.

The cheapest C-Maps here in Townsville are from BIAS Boating Warehoue. A C-Map wide map from Ballina to Darwin, which includes all the No Fishing Reef Zones will set you back $299. I bought one just over 6 weeks ago, and this was the cheapest price anywhere on the net and local retailers. Most retailers want $319 for this product.
Another place to try is Pleasure marine on Pilkington St, now looks after Navman and has a lot of info on maps including the local maps if you dont want the wide maps.Just make sure you get the ones with the GBRMPA zones as some of the smaller maps are are not worth upgrading.
Local maps are not much good for the Townsville area. The northern boundary is Lucinda from memory, and that's really only just over an hour out of Townsville and is at the bottom end of Hichinbrook Island.
Local maps cover to Dunk Island. Steve at Pleasure Marine is a wheeler and dealer so give him your best price and he'll probably beat it. He show you how it all works as well.
