    I am about to buy my first fishfinder and from what research the net has provided hummingbird are the best for the first time user. I am interested in any info on fishfinders for novices. Please advise

    You don't need to 'begin' on a less effective unit. If you can stretch your budget just a little, you can get a Humminbird FF565 which will give you a lot (640) vertical pixels. That should show you plenty of detail. I have been checking around, and Sundown Marine in Brisvegas (Jason Bird) quoted me a better price than I could get anywhere else. They're on Ausfish, so you can just PM them. If you can get into the store, with cash, mention Ausfish, and they might better the price I got. I don't own a Humminbird sounder, but it looks fairly easy to use. Maybe someone else here can advise about that. Tight lines!
