    Humminbird NS25

    Howdy Ausfishers..

I have a Humminbird NS25 sounder installed in my boat.. and was talking with my brother about it the other day over a few amber ales.
He continued to tell me I had my soudner setup incorrectly, as I needed to get it set on "arches" to stop false readings coming back. Now, being relatively new to the sounder, but having read the manual from cover to cover, I was pretty damn sure this particular beastie doesn't actually do arches.. but instead uses FishID+ or something.

Can someone who owns one of these little numbers tell me if I am right or wrong? And if I am wrong, and you can display arches, exactly how to do it?

    Cheers!

I just had a quick flick through the manual online, and it certainly doesnt mention the arches....

I would go through all your menus (For the sounder component) and see if there is an option to turn the fish symbols on/off. If there is, set it to off.

In esseence - The fish symbols are the arches after they've gone through some "logic" in the Head Unit computer. It deciphers the information for you, and displays the fish symbol for what it thinks is a fish. You do lose a lot of information through this though.

it is called Fish ID in the Hummingbird menus.

    Hey Jeremy,
Yeah, I've seen that in the menus. Does turning that off mean I will see the arches (Can't test it for a few days) or is the fish the equivalent of the arches?

turning off Fish ID will turn off the fish symole and give you the raw sonor data. Whether you will see arches or not is another question . I think it will depend a bit on the settings you are using, quality of the sounder, and whether there are any large fish in the beam.

Well, I went straight to the horses mouth (so to speak) and asked Humminbird.
According to the person who replied to me, The NS25 DOES NOT support arches
Turning off the FishID will replace it with black squares instead

    Bugger.
