    What Camera???

What camera are you using for your fish pics? How many megapixels and are you happy with its performance???

I have a Sony DSC-U60 2 megapixel camera waterproof to 1.5 meters. I only wish it had a zoom feature as some of the fish I catch need to be zoomed in to see them. Apart from that I am very happy with it as all I have to do at the end of a fishing trip is chuck it in a bucket of water for 1/2h to clean it.

Just wondering what others are using.

The camera I use is a 2 megapixel Kodak camera that is held together with cable ties, the battery compartment is the problem. It seems to take OK photos and is good in the boat as I am not too worried if it goes overboard given its condition. I need to upgrade this unit, for as sure as eggs I will eventually land that monster and the cable ties will let go at the crucial minute.

Noticed a couple of catalogues in todays Sunday Mail that had some pretty snazzie cameras that sure look the goods. What was interesting though was the big price difference between the 2 retailers > $100.00 difference in some cases. Just goes to show that you need to shop around.

    Regards Cameron.

    Hi Darryl

Have been using a Sony Cybershot 3 megapixel but have upgraded to a Canon digi SLR 8 megapixel. Delighted with the quality of my new pics but still only have my Learners with it Need some tuition from Jeffo I feel Heaps of features as well. In relation to the number of megapixels, it simply refers to the number of pixels present on the sensor that records the image. The more megapixels there are, the more detail that the sensor will record and the bigger the prints that can be made from the images. Cameras with about 2MP or less are suitable really only for smaller print sizeswhereas a 3MP will procduce great quality up to 6x4 and can sometimes produce good A4 prints.

IMO, what I'm trying to say is that it's not just about the megapixels, other things come into play that contribute to its quality and all of these are dependent on all the range of parts to do their job properly. Things like the build quality of the camera, can it take a knock or three, is it fast enough in operation, does it have all the features you want and can you add accessories like flashguns etc etc. In other words, it's what the camera does with the pixels that will unltimately determine its quality. In that sense, I would think that the processor is probably a crucial factor here because things like detail, colour, sharpness, contrast and tonal range all rely on the processor doing a good job and doin it quickly. As I have found and you would also know, those long delays before taking a piccie can be really frustrating.

    FWIW I hope that helps.

Got a fuji finepix 5500. This series of cameras takes some beating for price considering that it comes with a 10xzoom. It's only 3 meg but that's ok if only printing to 10x8. Some of the other finepix models go to more meg but come with a smaller zoom.

Also, some have tif or raw facility, and some don't and only shoot in jpg.

The price seems to go up and down on this range of cameras varying by as much as 100bucks from one store to another.

Ideally, I would like a canon slr digi so I could use my eos series lenses.

What I would like to see in digi lower spec cameras is more wide angle lenses.

Yeah mate. I've used a few digis and can't get used to the lag no matter how fast they are. That's why the slr will be the go when I get a few bob together. Well. I *did* have few bob together but bought the vests instead

When you do decide to go for a DSLR have a yak with Dug or Zeeke and if you do have the extra or spare $$ go for the bigger or extra memory cards ..Shoot in RAW(Format that is lol) and learn every little thing that Camera does or can do..

    Re: What Camera???

I got a Kodak 2 megapixel, 3 optical zoom (uses AA batteries).
My son has a Panasonic with Lumix lens 10x optical zoom and 5 megapixel.
Wife has Olympus 5 megapixel 3 optical zoom and daughter now also has an Olympus 6 megapixel, 3 optical zoom, I just bought her for XMAS.
The Kodak takes alright pictures but goes through AA batteries like they were petrol.
The Panasonic does not seem to take very good photos , often out of focus?? Not sure what is going on might have to take it back to get checked out, can't afford to spend $600 on something that is not right.
    The Olympus's are great.
Whatever you get make sure its got a lithium battery and at least 3 optical Zoom and 5 megapixel.

Mine are nimh and I don't seem to have that problem. I did when I was using nicad though.

That's another point in favout of the finepix series. They are excellent in regard to battery usage,

    Re: What Camera???

Mate mine are nimh's also..Its only if the camera sits that i have this problemo...If i'm going on a days piccy taking i have no problems with them running dry.
Maybe they have developed some sort of a memory problem??...laptop does the same, battery will run down some overnight just sitting there if not plugged in even when swithced off...
Could be i end up with the lemons lol....
