Combo Units - Sounder & GPS - Any good?

Purchasing my new boat shortly and trying to determine if I should go for a GPS & Sounder combo to save some money or whether seperate units are the better option. My concern is that you lose half the screen either for the GPS or sounder and how well does that work?

I mainly fish impoundments and rivers etc. Not too much rough stuff. Appreciate any advice.

    RayB,

It will come down to a personal choice in the end. There is no advantage either way,if you go seperate units you will need more dash room and it will usualy be a little more expensive to go two seperate units.

There is only one company that does a truely integrated GPS/Sounder system under approx.$3000 at the moment and that is Humminbird.Every other company still uses two different systems but in the one box ,so to speak.

The Matrix systems are the only integrated sounder/GPS on the market at the moment unless you go into Navnet or Raymarine C or E series systems.

    Ray,
If you have the room for both, then I'd use seperate units.
I have a Garmin combo which I bought because I could only fit one unit in.
Splitting the screen is not as good, but most times I either run in full GPS mode and just display the depth, or I run in full sounder mode.
I'm happy with the unit, but it would have been nice to have two.

My reasons for two would be
    a: Full screen on both
b: If one dies, you still have the other
c: Looks cool with all that electronic shit in your boat

    cheers,

    Thanks for the replies.

Sounds like if you have the money and room on the dash, multiple units are the way to go. Better raid the cookie jar!
